In this amazing book Rahel Bruegger introduces readers to the transformative power of Solution-Focused Art Therapy. Designed for professionals, therapists, and individuals seeking self-healing, this book offers a comprehensive guide to understanding and addressing trauma through simple clear painted images.

Bruegger delves into the intricate workings of the brain, explaining how emotions and memories are processed, She elucidates the roles of the amygdala and hippocampus in the formation and resolution of trauma, making complex neuroscience understandable and explaining the role of images in emotional processing as well as the healing pathways of the painted pictures in the therapeutic process.

One of the standout features of this workbook is its practical approach. Rachel Bruegger guides readers through a series of step-by-step exercises, designed to imprint new pictures/impressions in the brain to weaken stressful symptoms.

I really enjoyed learning simply how PTSD and trauma affects the brain. The exercises helps the reader use simple paintings to relieve the deeply stored hurts, stress, and anxiety from past loss and trauma.
You don’t have to be an artist, but just willing to explore. The author is very responsive to inquiries. A valuable find.

This book is an awesome guide that describes how art therapy provides a safe space for emotions that often elude verbal expression. This book is an excellent way to explore, heal, and create. Bruegger’s wisdom and warmth infuse every chapter, making this a must-read for anyone curious about the transformative power of art. This manual is very informative and an added valuable tool for trauma healing and PTSD recovery. As the author indicated, art therapy intents to transfer stressful or traumatic image stored in the brain into the painting and then replacing it with the harmless image you created by your own painting. This simple self-help therapy can be availed of at any time and in any place.

A Great Do-It-Yourself Art Therapy Workbook to help relieve stress, anxiety and deep-seated trauma. Clicking the QR-code at the end of Chapter 5 on page 25 will take you to several videos of painting instructions. The videos were very instructive and super easy to follow. It gave me the confidence to start painting. Painting the sweet pepper and the flower was a relaxing and calming experience. This book is practical, accessible, and effective in reducing stress and anxiety. I will highly recommend this book to my colleagues, patients, friends, and relatives.

I appreciate that this book is written in a very clear way. You don’t have to be a doctor to understand it or to work through the steps. My sister has a reading level of about 9th grade and I believe this book will be helpful to her. It is nice to have videos illustrating the steps and processes.

I found the descriptions on the parts of the brain that are active in trauma to be very insightful. And reading of the benefits of art therapy and the ways to practice it helped me understand a great way to overcome trauma!

This book is everything that I want from an art therapy workboook. Of utmost importance is that it is brief and to the point. Many publications are theory-dense, designed for practitioners and persons trained in the field. This book contains succinct explanations with just enough specificity what is occurring and the reasoning behind the techniques. Then, it just walks you through each exercise clearly.
I find the medium, a book, very refreshing. These days, we often default to an instructional video, but a paper books necessarily lacks the stimuli, which is a plus. In these stressful times, everyone needs to find a constructive and effective outlet. I would recommend this workbook and its short methods as a means to find such an outlet.

It’s very very interesting to know and read about Amygdala and hippocampus functionality of the brain.in bad situations amygdala is activated and this inhibits hippocampus. And it’s very very interesting to know 60 percentage of brain has images and brain communicates and store images. This book gives hope to me that bad images can be replaced by good art very simple art. I used to think brain is very complex and it stores data like 0 and 1s as computer. My perception about brain changed. The topic of the book gave me an impression that I need to be a best artist but I gone through the pages it’s just simple that anybody can do it. Everybody in our life gone through trauma at any point of our life. Hope this book will be useful for many. God bless you.

This is a great workbook to successfully take creative action, demonstrating that even if the therapeutic relationship is missing, there can be a change in one’s own system. You work step by step through the sensations and body perceptions that trigger you during a trauma in the “here and now”. Explore your thoughts, experiences, and senses to acquire better knowledge and understanding of your own thinking patterns.

For me as an art therapist working with Solution-Focused Art Therapy, I can imagine that working with this book and to begin to enable change and development with support and optimism, to take action and lose the fear of being at the mercy of the trauma, and to experience yourself as capable of acting and reflecting again.

I’ve been a facilitator for trauma healing groups and I’m so glad to have this resource of art activities that promote trauma healing. I had the opportunity to participate in one of the activities in a group and it was clear and helpful. I also appreciate the explanations of trauma and the brain, which along with the art exercises are useful both for those facilitating healing groups and counseling others, and for those recovering from trauma and reading on their own.

As a lay person and new to Art Therapy, I loved this book . There is excellent background on the workings of the brain in traumatic situations but Ms. Bruegger does not seek to write a textbook and therefore does not get bogged down in theory. She explains the psychology of Art Therapy in understandable terms and gives sufficient information so that the reader can understand the science behind the therapy. She then moves step by step through practical exercises that the reader can do on their own or in conjunction with their own therapy. It was a fascinating process and I saw the benefit immediately. I highly recommend this book for anyone suffering from memories that trigger PTSD, stress, anxiety or depression.
