Description
Follow the Feng Shui path to motherhood
Feng Shui Pregnancy: Pregnancy and impending motherhood serve up a confusing cocktail of heroic strength and terrifying vulnerability. Our culture has seized on the “vulnerability” part of the pregnancy experience and tends to reinforce a pregnant woman’s insecurities instead of encouraging her to embrace this most natural time and trust her body, her intuition, and her own mind. Feng Shui Mommy takes a different approach, helping you build your own unique, epic journey to motherhood.
Helpful guidance through all four trimesters of your pregnancy: It’s about supporting her while she shores up her mind-body-spirit alignment, so she can best handle the cosmic kick in the uterus and juicy kiss on the soul that pregnancy is. Bailey Gaddis guides women through the experience, providing specific suggestions for mind, body, and spirit for each trimester (including the “fourth,” after birth), leading to birth preparation designed for mother and baby, and culminating in strong mother-child bonding.
Your pregnancy can be a joyful experience: Baily’s advice allows mothers to welcome delight and curiosity into the journey while taking each phase with purpose and calm ― and even a sense of fun. This comprehensive guide to pregnancy and parenting makes challenge and change joyful, allowing new life to be as incomparably wonder-filled as it is meant to be.
Feng Shui Mommy provides you with:
- Prenatal exercise advice
- Nutrition tips
- Birth preferences and birthing positions
- Breath work recommendations
- Breastfeeding guidance
- And much more
An essential pregnancy book: If you have read The Mama Natural Week-By-Week Guide to Pregnancy & Childbirth, Mindful Birthing, or Spiritual Midwifery, then you’ll want to have Feng Shui Mommy by your side throughout your pregnancy journey.

Bailey Gaddis has written a book for expectant moms that breaks through all the old, tired stereotypes of what a healthy birthing experience is. (Hint: it’s exactly the birth experience you have!). With warmth, wit, and an astounding amount of experience, Gaddis is the new champion of moms (and dads) to be. She honors pregnancy and the run-up to birth as the transformative, enriching experience that it is. This should be on the nightstand of all moms-to-be.

I am a mother of 2 girls, teach prenatal yoga and I am a birth advocate. This book has been a wonderful addition to my education. Gaddis’s simple, yet time-tested approach to pregnancy and motherhood is so refreshing. She reminds us that we can have an empowered pregnancy and birth by trusting our intuition and body. I love the practical and down to earth tools provided in this comprehensive guide, and the humor and realness Gaddis offers in each chapter. I highly recommend this book — there is something in it for everyone!

I love this book and I wish I had this before I was pregnant so I could follow along with the journey. Either way this book has me less freaked out about childbirth. My due date is almost here so I have read this book form the middle to the end first. This book has definitely eased my mind about giving birth. The book has many different tips and to do’s that I didn’t event think about when it comes to giving birth. The book is definitely a great book to have along with you as you are pregnant but also a good life book in general.

I bought this book for an expectant friend of mine, because I had had such a great experience with Bailey Gaddis’ breathing exercises, visualizations, and general prenatal prep during my pregnancy last year. Bailey’s approach to pregnancy coaching and labor/delivery prep is perfect for the Type A-list maker-over worrier-details obsessed-pregnant woman I was. The book is broken up into sections by trimester, which gives you easy, measurable little to-dos and goals for each phase of pregnancy. Despite the conveyed Earth Mama-ness of the title, the book is geared toward woman of all birthing persuasions; it is truly non-judgmental and open-minded (a genuine rarity in the pregnancy literature world). All-in-all, this is the book I wish I had had when I was pregnant and googling. In fact, I went ahead and picked up a physical copy at a local bookstore to add to my collection for my next journey through pregnancy. It is that good.

I have been a doula for 5 years and have also had two children of my own over the last 5 years…therefore i have read a TON of birth books. SO many birth books. And this one is one of the BEST. I wish this was written when I was having my children, but I am so happy it is written now. I will recommend this to all of my doula clients and pregnant friends. The author is able to disseminate vital information while doing so in a light, fun and easy to read format. It’s a truly beautiful book and covers all of the aspects of pregnancy and birth that really, truly matter. I can not recommend this book enough. There is so much mediocre or typical birth stuff out there…this is exceptional and so truly useful. This is a must-buy for anyone pregnant or anyone who plays a role in birth support.

Bailey’s book is a must read for pregnant mamas and mothers to be. Actually, anyone even around a pregnant woman could benefit by reading this book! It is filled to the brim with cutting edge information, relatable humor, and simple practices to really support mama-to-be. Bailey has a loving, compassionate, yet solidly educational writing style that is easy to read + digest. I love how she incorporates the physical, mental, emotional, spiritual, and environmental aspects to creating a blissful pregnancy, childbirth, and motherhood. This book is like having an “expert at pregnancy wellness” best friend right by your side!

This book is a must have for any pregnant woman looking to have a conscious pregnancy and birth. It allowed me to really embrace the transformation process I was going through and to be able to bond with my baby. It is full of so many useful tools for every trimester and even after the birth that I couldn’t image having not used. As a first time mom this really eased my nerves and allowed me to feel prepared and excited to become a new mama. It’s an engaging read and you feel as if your trusted friend is filling you in on all the wise wisdom she has gathered. I read and researched my way through a fair amount of pregnancy books out there and this one for you, you won’t be sorry.

I really enjoy pregnancy books that are down to earth and honest! Gaddis obviously poured herself into this book and has a sincere desire to help woman achieve a blissful pregnancy. She covers all the bases and even adds more through her holistic approach. While it is not full of pictures and diagrams (some woman want this) it does provide some illustrations when needed. It is full of “Fun Facts” “Tips”, and “Riddles” with internet links. Personally, I wanted to like this book more, but although I come from a very natural standpoints- I am not a Yoga type person. My personal meditation is through prayer and seeking God. BUT if you are into a holistic approach and are schooled in Yoga meditation and its practices, this book is for you! I am a doula and I am always reading new books to read and recommend to clients. I am happy to add it to my lending library!

I received this book for free for my honest review, and this book is phenomenal. Although I am not currently pregnant right now, I plan to use this book during my next pregnancy. I have had two high risk complicated pregnancies and completely uneducated births. This book covers all the bases that interest me, natural aspects and ideals, recipes, she discusses positions, breathing techniques, tapping, hypnosis, massage techniques. For me she touched on group b strep and gestational diabetes which I had with both, she discusses what they are and possible preventions, among many other topics. Definitely a fantastic book for any momma, but especially for mommas who prefer more natural, calm pregnancies and labors.

I wasn’t entirely sure about this book. I’m not really into Feng Shui or Eastern mysticism. I honestly had the expectation that this book would be about decluttering your house and living in minimalism with children. But what I found is that this book is more about decluttering your mind and less about what is under your bed. (Though it does touch on that a bit, too.)
Bailey is hilarious. She is a Mommy friend you would want to have. Yet even in her honesty about the awkward and uncomfortable aspects of pregnancy and birth and motherhood, she doesn’t let that be a source of fear. It isn’t a warning about changing bodies and losing yourself to another. She still holds that this is a life changing event in a positive way. While saying, “Pregnancy is the epitome of change…” she still holds that this change can be good, making you a better version of you. It is a much needed shift in the way we talk about pregnancy and motherhood. Yes, there will be hemorrhoids. But there will also be creativity and love and strength you didn’t know you had getting stronger through the experience.
Feng Shui Mommy is a little bit of hypnobirthing, with free downloadable relaxation tracks at the end of each chapter, mixed with Birthing from Within, though without all the interesting art projects. Most of the book is about decluttering yourself, your mind, your soul. There is also great information of pregnancy nutrition, exercise, making a birth plan, breathing, breastfeeding, and postpartum care. Lots of different techniques on letting go of fear and allowing the change of pregnancy, of motherhood, to come and to accept it instead of fight it.
For many, these things will come across as very “woo” (hippie, granola). You might feel silly trying some of the activities, like tapping, shaking, or meditating. But what have you really got to loose? And what do you have to gain?
As a Christian mom, some of the book wasn’t my language. I’m in tune with nature to the extent that I feel it is God’s creative work and show me something about Him. But Christians do meditate. Some of the language, I just had to mentally change to adapt to my worldview. Even with the religious aspects being different, I still found the tone, wisdom, and helps in this book to be valuable. This is an excellent resource for pregnant women.

I am a long time fan of Bailey. She’s the real deal, such a loving person. Her guided relaxations are amazing by the way! But back to the book. I wish I had this book before my 3 girls were born. I didn’t get it until my 3rd daughter was almost 1. I think it would have made my life a lot easier & less stressful. That being said I still enjoyed it, and found several chapters very helpful. Her advice comes in quick, easy to digest doses that you can apply the next day. I highly recommend it.
* I did receive a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review from the author

I enjoy reading books on a natural approach to childbirth, so this was overall a good read. I’m not really into the actual “Feng Shui” side of things, I choose to meditate through prayer with God, so it seemed a little heavy on the actual belief of that, but I felt like I could take some of the general principles and apply it to my own meditation. It did have some practical aspects, if a bit crass at times in an attempt to be comical. But overall it has useful information that I will be referencing back to as my pregnancy progresses.

I happened to read this book after my pregnancy (about 10 days after) so I really identified with the postpartum section the most, BUT I loved reading through the rest of the book. It was like having a peaceful companion along my not so peaceful journey. I read so much on pregnancy and labor that when it came time to deliver I felt slightly side swiped. My pregnancy did not go as I had envisioned (apparently, A+B does not = C). I barely practiced my breathing before I went into labor and the techniques in this book would surely have helped me had I known about the book beforehand. Also, the way Gaddis writes is very personable and relatable. Not too far on the “wooey” side so as not to deter those unfamiliar with energy. I’m a massage therapist so I understand how difficult that can be. I’m excited to try and utilize these practices in my next pregnancy and hopefully will be better equipped for the unknown. Highly, highly recommend this book.

I adore this book! I, admittedly, have read lots of books since I got pregnant, and this is one of my top two (the other being the Mama Natural Week by Week Guide to Childbirth) that I keep handy on my nightstand. Feng Shui Mommy was probably the most practical, applicable book I read. Most pregnancy books are so focused on the process that your body goes through, but this one gave me so many take-aways to actually put into use. I love the beginner’s intro to Feng Shui for someone who as no experience in it at all, but I don’t think it was a distraction from the book’s focus on a healthy pregnancy, childbirth and motherhood.
Things I loved were tidbits like what plants are good to keep in the house, which colors send which messages, trigger points on your body, simple yoga and meditation ideas, birthing positions for a natural birth, organization lists for the hospital, and so many more. I swear that almost half of my book is dog-eared for quick reference. If you are even half-interested in natural childbirth or feng shui or anything holistic, this book is for you! Even my non-crunchy friends loved hearing about the tips for creating balance at home and in your life.

This book is a breath of fresh air, validating womens’ physical and emotional experiences throughout the exciting and overwhelming stages of pregnancy, birth, and motherhood. With a strong focus on mindfulness, Gaddis sets the tone at the beginning of each chapter with a guided breathing exercise. Each of the exercises reminds the reader to be present in that very moment, which is also great practice for focused breathing during labor! 😉
Gaddis covers each trimester (including postpartum) and suggests how to honor the mind, body, and spirit during those times. The best part about this book is that Gaddis encourages the reader to pick and choose only what resonates with the reader. She recognizes that no two people (or pregnancies) are the same — and she honors those differences.
Although this book is an easy read, it challenges the reader to be aware of her environment and how it impacts her everyday thoughts and emotions. Gaddis provides suggestions on how to simplify everyday living and encourage positive energy by making a few changes in the home. She suggests decluttering, organizing in practical ways, and surrounding yourself with uplifting colors to encourage positive moods.
Would I recommend this book? Sure! I believe Gaddis encourages a positive outlook that’s beneficial to more than just pregnant women. That being said, the birth nerd in me wishes more of her suggestions were evidence based. At one point she encourages Kegel exercises to support pelvic floor muscles during labor, and to help with postpartum recovery. I’ve heard conflicting arguments from professionals about Kegels, how they can be damaging if not “done properly”. I’ve personally been told that Kegels should only be done under the care of a pelvic floor physical therapist, so I’m skeptical of this particular suggestion and would value it more if it was supported by current research — the same goes for her advice on perineal massages.
Other than a few of the medical-ish suggestions, I think the book is spot-on for encouraging a positive pregnancy and birth experience! I hope expecting women benefit from reading this book, and are able to fully appreciate the perinatal journey ahead of them, by surrounding themselves with nothing but positive energy!

I loved this book. I read it 4 weeks before giving birth and ended up having an amazing birth experience and believe that a large part of that was down to reading this book, along side practising hypnobirthing. I felt a lot more confident after reading the book and it really made sense to me. I found the chapter on the 4th trimester particularly useful for After the birth. Would recommend this book to any expectant mothers. You won’t be disappointed.

My daughter is currently 6 months old but I still enjoyed reading this book and hope to read it again when I have another little one on the way in a few years. This book really focuses on getting a hold of your fears before birth and gives you many tools in order to do this. This was the focus of my birth-letting go of fears and seeing myself as capable and I would have enjoyed having these extra tips and relaxation recordings while I was preparing for labor. The book has lots of information for pregnancy and beyond and I think it really would help women feel empowered by their birthing experiences to read this book and take it to heart. There are several illustrations on different relaxation poses/yoga poses to do that are helpful.

Now I am just beginning my second pregnancy. I wish I had this book for my first though. Why? Because birth as much as you prepare for it, is mostly all mental. No matter what you plan for unplanned things happen, and you need to be in strong mental state to give birth. For my first pregnancy so many people told me I was going to do so great I am not worried about you. Though this was so kind and sweet, I found when I went into labor I wasn’t prepared for how challenging birth is. And how necessary going into a deep meditation is in labor, however the method you use to get there. I still remember the moment I was dealing with heavy intense contractions and I was like woah this is tough, I am not mentally prepared. I had a good birth, but still I wish I had what this book offers.
You need this book bc you can’t memorize all the facts that is for your doctor or midwife to know. You need to know you, and learn to trust yourself, and learn all the important birth knowledge stuff too. This book covers it, and infact this author has got you. Plus it’s a fun read, it feals like the author is talking to you over the phone, like a close girlfriend would be doing.
Staying balanced, mentally, physically and emotionally is the way to go. Trust me you need it all to get through labor AND motherhood. So happy I have this book now through my second pregnancy. I feel so supported!

I’m still reading but wanted to share what an enjoyable and pleasant read it is. Bailey’s style is authentic and engaging. You learn while sharing in the emotions conjured up by transparent human experience… the best way to learn in my opinion. I also wanted to share that I am not a mother (at least not yet), and I still find the book and unfolding story/’lessons’ to be helpful and supportive to the creation of a more loving and accepting context for life and it’s many transitions.

This is a great book for new Moms. It is low pressure and has a lot of great advice. It focuses on being a healthy and happy pregnant woman and Mom as much as it focuses on having a healthy baby which is refreshing. I also love that she has classes online you can take that supplement the book itself!

This book is a lovely, positive, and encouraging book for pregnant families, especially those expecting a first child. Gaddis has a warm, inviting, accessible voice that is easy to relate to and welcomes the reader in. There is a nice balance between technical information, helpful tools to practice, and personalized accounts of going through both the positive and the challenging aspects of pregnancy and early postpartum.
As a practicing childbirth doula and midwife assistant (and mother of two), I am constantly reminded how important it is for the birthing person to feel supported, informed, and receive positive stories and influences during their childbearing journey. I think Gaddis’ book is a lovely support for anyone seeking this, and would be a great gift to yourself or a pregnant friend who could use an extra encouraging and positive perspective, along with some great practical tools to use and help set yourself up for a positive pregnancy, birth, and postpartum experience.

Feng Shui Mommy is one of my favorite pregnancy books! Her voice is one of calm reason, wisdom beyond her years, and hilarious truths about when “s*** gets real”. I really enjoyed the breakout of the chapters as it relates to the four trimesters, which helped to make the reading and tips along the way easier to process in smaller chunks. Her insights into the beautiful journey of motherhood are unlike anything I’ve ever read before… a breath of fresh air in this modern day world of mom-shaming social media groups and fear driven Google searches. Turn to Bailey’s guidance with your new mom questions instead, and most of all, listen to her message of love and trust in your body to do what’s best for both you and your baby.

A breath of fresh air (literally) in pregnancy books! Bailey has a way with words that made this an easy page turner and left you wanting to keep reading. I read it during my second pregnancy and found it helpful to reset my mind and body from my first pregnancy and birth. It combines hypnobirthing with other birth fields of thought, allowing you to discover what feels best to you. I just handed my dog-eared, well-loved book to my cousin expecting her first baby.
You will love this book, and you will love the bits of humor to help you get through your pregnancy!

As a doula, I found the Feng Shui Mommy to be a very helpful and informative read that I plan to recommend to my clients. I loved the focus on setting your intentions along the way for many aspects of pregnancy, childbirth, and new parenthood. While guiding readers in meditation and setting intentions, the Feng Shui Mommy also provides very practical, useful information and personal stories to help any pregnant person understand and normalize what they may be experiencing. She also offers tips on how to navigate the challenging parts of labor and childbirth and helps prepare the reader for what’s to come. I highly recommend this book as one tool to learn more about what to expect and to have some great laughs along the way.

Bailey Gaddis has hit a home run with this delightfully refreshing, reassuring and entertaining book. She shares her own experiences along with those of others to guide expectant moms through the challenges of pregnancy, birth and life after birth. This is a must have for all expectant moms and their partners. I am a birth doula in Longmont CO and now give this book to my clients. It is a delight to read and Bailey has done a fantastic job explaining a lot of the events that accompany pregnancy, birth and the “new normal” after birth and offers helpful hints to clear out some of the hindrances and self sabotage that can come along with parenthood. Thank you Bailey Gaddis for this book of hilarious reassurance, encouragement and nonjudgemental words of wisdom. All expectant parents should have a copy of this on their bedside tables. I would have loved this 17 years ago!

As a birth doula and childbirth educator, I highly recommend “Feng Shui Mommy” to any expectant parents. Bailey Gaddis offers a witty, honest, and funny walk-through of the preparation for childbirth. It was both informative and entertaining. Her relatable remarks almost gave her a character in her own right; and I thought repeatedly while reading, “I know exactly what she’s talking about, I felt the same way!” I loved her exercises about mindfulness and her pictures of labor positions. Another thing that I loved was that this book covered the “Fourth Trimester,” something that if often not talked about but is very necessary to understand. Overall, Feng Shui Mommy is an engaging read that will really make your birth experience all the more enjoyable. Her words really make you look into yourself and help relieve you of your fears and realize how much strength you really have. I wish I had this book when I was going through my own birth process.

This review is a long time coming! I received this book during my pregnancy and was unexpectedly hospitalized shortly after and induced for labor. It wasn’t until my now 18 month old grabbed this off my book shelf and has been toting it around the house, which prompted me to finally write my review. I really love the information contained in this book, especially for the “fourth trimester.” This is a super easy read in my opinion and value the various topics she touches upon in accordance with the metaphysical. Wonderful book to give to expecting and new moms!

This book is a hundred times more comprehensive than I thought it would be based on the sample alone. It is your one-stop pregnancy guide, especially for first-timers like me who are a bit apprehensive about our changing bodies and, of course, the big finale. Bailey Gaddis, a doula, writes from a non-judgmental place of caring and understanding that makes me feel like I have a strong female friend encouraging me along the way. This book covers everything you could ever want to know about pregnancy and childbirth, from how to reframe your thoughts about prenatal exercise to how to make your home a welcoming haven for your newborn. And, of course, it covers the mechanics of getting that baby into the world. Gaddis shares the ways cultures around the world and throughout history have viewed childbirth in a positive light as a rite of passage and a means of rebirth for the woman as she becomes a mother. Far from being preachy, Gaddis explains her own apprehensions about childbirth and gently walks you through becoming accepting of the process. I wish I had bought this book as soon as I got my positive!

I started reading this book at 35 weeks pregnant with baby #2 after watching some of Bailey Gaddis’ YouTube videos. I can’t put it down! I wish I would have had this book during pregnancy #1! This book speaks of pregnancy so beautifully. It’s so empowering and really reminds the reader that she is a goddess. I’ll be recommending this book to every pregnant or ttc woman I know!

This book is like drinking a cup of your favorite tea. It is warm, comforting and gives your spiritual side excitement and love. I loved how easy it was to read this book and not feel overwhelmed. Unlike the other pregnancy books I have read, this book focuses on the positives! She does not dwell on the “what ifs” or “horrible birth stories”. She talks about how WE as women can take charge and control of the pregnancy and birth WE want. I love that she breaks down the Feng shui mindset and lifestyle in such a simple way that I felt I could start adapting those ideas into my life immediately. I loved reading about the different birth traditions in other cultures, the walk-thru of writing a birth plan, and the different elements I can use daily to live a happier life. Anyone could read this book – pregnant or not – and get some nuggets out of it.
I would recommend reading this book for anyone that wants a POSITIVE and UPLIFTING read to encourage a healthy pregnancy.

If you want to peel back all the layers of pregnancy, birth and early motherhood, and have a truly enjoyable, transformative experience, this book is for you. It goes so much deeper than any other pregnancy and birth book I’ve read, and is FUN to read! The author is super funny and able to provide information in a really clear, unthreatening way. I also just read the author’s new book “Asking For a Pregnant Friend,” and loved it. They’re the only two pregnancy and birth books you need, which is why I’m now going to gift them to every woman I know who is expecting.
