This book gives clear instructions for introducing and practicing a mindfulness program with others. It even offers ways to simply explain how mindfulness affects the brain. Research shows that many people with stress and/or mental health problems can benefit from midfulness execises. This book helps clinicians offer the opportunity to experience mindfulness to others and encourages clinicians to practice their own program of mindfulness regularly.

Awesome for supporting clients experiencing symptoms of PTSD, anxiety, adhd, axis 2 struggles, dual diagnosis counseling and as a start with depression. I bring this book into session, and most clients really like it. Very popular. As with any guide there is a certain amount of tailoring activities to each individual, and making tweaks here and there, overall a really impressive guide and base to mindfulness work. I like to use this a lot in support of CBT work and practice, as an introduction to therapy, as well as an ongoing support.
After each exercise I use client feedback, during process time, to make minor improvements to certain exercises that need a tweak here and there. It’s worth it to purchase.the paperback, due to the necessity of making copies and handouts for colleagues and clients alike. Great book to share with other therapists in the workplace too!!

I am firmly convinced of the value of mindfulness for treatment of a variety of mental disorders–from anxiety to substance abuse. But, I felt lost as to how to implement these techniques. This book has been the perfect solution! I have been using exercise from it with a very diverse set of clients — from a high-school girl with generalized anxiety & social anxiety to a middle-aged man in early recovery from substance abuse who is struggling with multiple losses due to his previous lifestyle. All clients have fully engaged in the exercises and, most importantly, reported that they have been helping. This is a great basic resource!

I would highly suggest this book for clinicians who work patients using cognitive therapy, meditation, etc. It certainly has aided me with additional dynamic meditations, activities, techniques to improve treatment outcomes. I am using many of them currently with great success.

just started reading this, easy applicable techniques. I’m not a therapist but someone who love to ready psychology books and expand my boundaries. I have used these techniques on my daughter, who can’t sleep in her bed, but obliviously encounter challenges because I am not a therapist that can “check out” to allow their patient to ponder.
I’m also using a Tibetan bell that resonates to practice how to focus and mediate.

This has acually turned into my favorite book for dealing with clients with anxiety/worry. The chapter on anxiety called How to Lower and Eliminate Anxiety, even has pictures of how to breathe from the belly standing and lying down. Tells you how the breaths should feel as you exhale them from your body. This is a great help to those that have a hard time understanding that the very first thing a person in a state of panic needs to do is BREATHE. Glad I purchased this book. One client even told me that she downloaded an app on her phone that plays “dripping water” to go along with her breathing she learned. LOL.

I use many of these methods for grounding exercises with a group I work with. I love the diversity and I mix it up with what ever is going on with the group at the time.

Debra has created a valued resource for any practitioner using mindfulness as one of their tools for working with clients. Even though I already a have a strong understanding of mindfulness, Debra’s clear and concise explanations of the fundamentals of mindfulness helped me refresh my knowledge and provided me new ways of presenting mindfulness to clients. She has organized the resource in such a way that even someone who has never used mindfulness with clients will have some guidance in regards to which tools to use for individuals with specific disorders like anxiety, depression and insomnia. I have used many of the tools in this book with my clients with great success. I recommend this book to any practitioner who is new to mindfulness and wants to get a practical foundation for the practice and for those who already use mindfulness and want a few more tools to add to their practice.

Really helpful for incorporating/reinforcing the didactic elements of DBT into mindfulness practice, and easy to use in a group setting. The explanations accompanying the mindfulness activities are not overly simple, but in my experience, at least, are concise and concrete enough that they’re easy both for me to communicate and for clients to grasp. A wonderful supplemental text.

I am a professional mental health counselor, but was not well versed in mindfulness. This book not only teaches the simplest breathing techniques but dives deeper on what techniques to use for various issues like sleeping problems, stress, anxiety or PTSD.

Great workbook! It was both a great review on mindfulness as well as a new, unique way of presenting and connecting other information to mindfulness. Would recommend for any clinician teaching mindfulness/DBT to clients.
