Description
Move past trauma, balance your emotions, and reconnect with your body’s innate wisdom in The Body Awareness Workbook for Trauma.
There is a piercing epidemic of trauma in the world today. Every few days there are reports of another tragedy, of more lives lost to gun violence, loved ones and family homes lost to floods, hurricanes, or fires. Women have come to speak openly about the trauma of sexual assault, and we are finally talking openly about the trauma inflicted on people of color, on transgender people, and immigrants. But now that this trauma is out in the open, how do we heal?
For years, we’ve understood the connection between trauma and mental health issues, such as depression and anxiety. But somatic psychology has recently shown that our bodies hold on to trauma, and trauma can manifest in physical symptoms, such as pain, hormone imbalance, sexual dysfunction, and addiction. In addition, we now know that developmental trauma—trauma that emerges when basic childhood needs are not met—can result in profound emotional stress and lead to serious diseases.
Building on this knowledge, this cutting-edge guide offers simple skills for connecting and calming your body, balancing your emotions, and rewiring old patterns of reactivity for better self-regulation. The mind-body approach in this book is designed to guide you away from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and trauma and toward posttraumatic growth. Using these exercises, you’ll learn how to reconnect and relate to your body—and yourself as a whole—in a new and healthy way.
If you’re ready to move past your trauma and rediscover your body’s innate capacity for healing, growth, vitality, and joy, this unique guide will help light the way.
I’m a Substance Use Counselor and need to work through my own trauma. This is a great compliment to ‘The Body Keeps The Score” book. I wanted to try it out before I used in in my practice and 100% will offer to my clients.
A very important book for those struggling with trauma either to supplement treatment or work through lesser traumas. Julie does a great job providing exercises.
This is the most important book I have ever experience. I have never seriously used a workbook. I followed, wrote, contemplated, wept, learned breathing techniques, reflected in safety and truly experienced profound healing. I worked the book very slowly, processing, releasing or reframining my trauma. Sometimes I would go a week or more because the experience was deep and needed time to process. Reframing was liberating. So was crying! This book can facilitate deep healing. The breathwork really helped me. I now use my favorite one daily. All the decades of talk therapy and various release techniques don’t shine a light on how I committed to the work and compassionately allowed the Author to guide me. My choice of wording, feeling and my new awareness has been life changing. You can do it. Make space in your life.
I bought this for my partner and it was a loooong shot. He never finished a book in his whole life, but this one really sucked him into it.
He never was a spiritual kind of guy but it gave it a shot with open mind and he is now fascinated.
The book it’s easy to read and understand and I think the exercises hit him in the right places. He can feel changes in his body as he goes through them.
I am very grateful for this book because I see that it’s helping him reflect on things and build the knowledge he needed to get better.
This was hard work but very well worth it. The knowledge base you gain to reconnect with your self is great.
