This workbook is – dare I say it – empowering. Starting wherever you are on your highly sensitive journey – from just learning about the trait to knowingly coping for years – it invites you to assess what’s working and what could use some improvements, and includes suggestions for making this trait into the strength it can be.
Author Amanda Cassil, PhD, also encourages readers to reframe past experiences using what we now know about how the highly sensitive nervous systems reacts. It can be a game-changer to reassess the past through this lens.
This book is a worthy addition to the highly sensitive bookshelf!
I received a copy of these book from the publisher.

I loved this book!
This is one of those great books where you can write in all of it, and get a lot out of it. It’s very much a work book. It starts by defining a highly sensitive person, which I found very helpful (because I wasn’t sure I was one!) and its followed by pages and pages of prompts to help you understand your sensitivities, and how you can muddle through them to live a normal life.
It’s okay to be affected by the world differently than others, and this book really showcases that. I think it’s easy to think “I’m different, so I’m weak”, and these prompts help you see for yourself some triggers, and helps you reflect on your day or week to see where you can help yourself work through them.

As a Highly Sensitive Person, it is such a relief to have a book like this! It describes the HSP experience so clearly, and gives real and practical ideas for navigating the strong emotions and overwhelming sensations that come with having an HSP brain.
There is a quiz you can take to determine whether or not you are an HSP. The quiz says that if you score a 14 or higher, then you are an HSP. I scored a 24! I am extremely sensitive, and it’s always been a struggle. I’ve felt misunderstood my entire life, and have spent years telling myself, “Why can’t you be like other people? Why does this bother you so much? Why can’t you just let it go?” This book spoke so compassionately to my frustration and emotional pain, as well as my physical struggles.
I love that it is in the format of a workbook, where you can answer questions, think deeply, and formulate some new habits and ways of dealing with situations that cause you to get overwhelmed. Having an exit strategy or a plan for self-care, and establishing boundaries of what you can and cannot tolerate, are all so important for an HSP.
This book covers topics like emotional health in relationships, balancing your work life, taking care of your physical health and food sensitivities, navigating social situations and expectations, and especially the specific traits that are most common for an HSP. It starts with a broad topic and quickly gets specific, giving examples of real situations and problems, and guiding the reader to find creative solutions.
I really liked that the book has a balance of focusing on both the positive and negative aspects of being an HSP. Yes, it means we get overwhelmed from too much external stimuli, but it also means we can appreciate beauty and tune in to subtle artistry in ways that others are unable to do.
I’m so impressed with this book! The writing style is wonderful. The information is detailed and full of great truths and insights. The questions are thoughtful and go into deep emotional levels. An excellent book for any HSP, and even for anyone who is not an HSP themselves, but has a loved one who is.

This book is part informational and part workbook geared toward highly sensitive people. A lot of the information is a repeat of information you’ve probably read if you’re a HSP, but that doesn’t mean it’s not a worthwhile refresher. I haven’t completed all of the exercises in this book yet, but I have read through the whole thing. I’m looking forward to completing the workbook, especially the section on budgeting resources. I am telecommuting for the next month, and plan on working on this bit by bit.

I really enjoyed reading this book. I first heard of the term/label HSP last year when a person on Instagram talked about having it. I read a little more about it then and felt a lot of light bulbs go off. It’s one thing to label yourself but I wanted to take it farther and actually figure out how to live my best life as an HSP. There are four HSP principles: an increased depth of processing, a tendency to be more easily overstimulated, a higher level of emotional intensity, and increased awareness of environmental subtleties due to sensory sensitivities. I’m 34 years old and I would say that right now I deal with some of principles more now than when I was younger but on the flip side I’d say that I dealt with the other principles more when I was younger. There are seasons of life after all and people change. I’m happy to have read this book and been able to apply it to my life now and think about how much I will need it when my life inevitably changes. It is definitely a book I will keep on my shelf and revisit again. This book will help you work through everyday life, social situations, relationships, work, health, and self-care.

I am pretty skeptical of workbooks, but this one is great. My first reaction on getting an advance copy from the publisher was pretty negative given my general aversion to workbooks. However, that was just a first reaction based on glancing at the material. Once I got into the book, read the material, and the first worksheets, I saw that pretty much everything is spot on. It will take time to work through this book properly. However, the principles are solid and helpful. Going through will remind you of all the ways to be mindful of living an empowered life as a HSP. Some things will not apply to you probably, but that is OK since there are other things that you would not have thought about. I would recommend this book for a HSP or quasi-HSP who is diligent about sitting down and working through a workbook. If you struggle to engage in prolonged, thoughtful work (the book reminds us that not all HSP are good with quiet / thoughtful work), this may be a struggle.

Ever felt like the energy in the room was too much? Like you needed a moment to gather your thoughts and feelings about a situation because you’re afraid you may be perceived incorrectly? Have you struggled to figure out how to recharge and why you struggle to recharge in the first place? As a self described HSP and a therapist myself I can relate. This book reframes these experiences with useful exercises and helpful guides for those who struggle with how to manage this superpower. Yes, I said superpower.
Amanda Cassil, PHD writes clearly and effectively about the HSP and uses her empathy to help the rest of us. If anything you’ve ever encountered about being a highly sensitive person resonates with you I would recommend using this guide to really understand this topic with solid research, expertise and exercises to back it up. I will certainly use this workbook in my practice.

As a HSP, I appreciate beautiful writing and opportunities for deep reflection. Amanda Cassil’s book provides both! Each section presents clinical information and exercises in an easily relatable format. The cadence of Cassil’s “voice” is like talking with an old friend – and I concluded each chapter not only with better understanding of myself, but also with deeper acceptance of who I was created to be.

This workbook is great. I’m not much of a workbook person but I decided to give this a chance and it was very thought provoking. The principles are helpful and I was impressed with the amount of information in this book.
I recommend this book for a HSP person who is willing to sit and fill it out.
If you struggle to engage in prolonged activities or don’t journal this may not for you.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher and have yet to finish the workbook, but I finally feel like I am not alone and so much makes sense. I had never heard of a HSP and now I can tell this is something I have been dealing with my whole life. It does take time to go through and at times is hard to answer, but I feel like reading this and working on the workbook is already helping me feel like I am not the only one. Thank you Rockridge Press!
Kathryn (verified owner) –
YES, YES, YES. I was sent a copy from the publisher to review and was pleasantly surprised! It is possible that someone who has already read about HSPs will have heard this information before, but as an HSP who hasn’t, I found the book to be quite educational and encouraging. I highly recommend for anyone who is curious if they have the trait or for anyone who thinks they know someone who might. Dr Cassil is incredibly well spoken; and backed by scientific support, makes the research very easy to understand. She offers practical ways to integrate the information into everyday manageable habits. The title of the book is spot on – with the help of insightful questions and supportive encouragements, Dr. Cassil makes easy the journey to living a more empowered life as an unique and Highly Sensitive Person.
Quick note- if you are the type of person who enjoys journaling and self-reflection, I definitely recommend the physical workbook as a resource to continually refer back and rework as needed!

NOTE: I received a copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for a fair and honest review.
As someone who is highly sensitive, I needed help to gain some perspective and a means to use that sensitivity to do well in life. This book helped immensely, and it helped me get some ideas and tips to help my son, who is similar in temperament to me but needed other coping mechanisms.

I received a review copy from the publisher.
I took the test, and it looked like I am a highly sensitive person. This book helped me to learn more about what that means and different coping techniques, and exercises. I loved that there was so much to do and very varied. One thing that irritated me was when an activity box would have examples written in a font meant to look like handwriting. It kept bothering me because I kept thinking about that answer instead of my own, so too leading and it looks messy when I write in it also. Clearly they must have had HSPs look at this before publishing, didn’t that bother anyone else?

Thank you to the publisher for gifting a copy of this book to me. I wrote this review by choice and honestly.
I am a highly sensitive person and am thrilled to see a book so focused on a part of myself that can be difficult for others to understand. This is a workbook to help the highly sensitive person create a life that is cohesive to this personality trait.
The book opens with an explanation of what it means to be highly sensitive before walking you through a self-assessment. Personally, I found myself enjoying the process of these evaluations and filling in the workbook.
I was happy to see the chapter on health and self-care. If you are a highly sensitive person, then you probably notice changes in your body and the way you feel. I think the charts created to fill in during different parts of the day are a great way to self-reflect while making a visual to study. I found this to be helpful and has allowed me to make a few changes to my eating habits.
If you find yourself wondering if this book is for you, it probably is. I can see myself referring back to this in the near and distant future, so this isn’t a one time use workbook. I highly recommend this book!

I’ve known I’m a Highly Sensitive Person and an Empath, for several years now. This would have been a great book to have when I was first learning about myself in this regard. The writing is straightforward, positive, and easy to understand. The exercises range from basic checklists for understanding your sensitivities, all the way to charting out how you feel at certain times of day, or after specific activities. This would be a great tool for someone who wants to understand how their sensitive are impacted by their lifestyle and the world in general. I will be gifting my copy to a friend who is earlier in her journey than I am and could use the explanations and support offered here.
Many thanks to Calisto Publishing for my advanced copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

This maybe the perfect workbook for you. It wasn’t for me. I do appreciate it. It’s clear and straightforward. It’s based when possible, on research. It’s physically a beautiful book, the graphics, coloring and layout.
The book tells us that each HSP, highly sensitive experience is unique. Hence making it difficult to cover all. It’s designed to give us a broad overview of common experiences that affect HSP’s. It covers things from parenting, self-care, work to relationships. I think if I was younger and newly diagnosed HSP this book might be excellent. Having lived 60 years I already understand and found some of the chapter summaries too basic and apply to everyone. For example, the Chapter Recap on Health and Self Care; get a good night sleep; each well; exercise; nature and self-care is not selfish. There are many open-ended questions, which can sometimes baffle HSP. What was very good is that there were in some cases examples of answers to those many open ended questions.
It is a life guide. It’s intended for reflection and learning overtime. I think it’s an excellent guide for the right person.
Jill Nicely (verified owner) –
I didn’t realize it until my I was in my 20s, but I’m a sensitive person. I am more strongly affected by my environment than many of those around me. I am sensitive to the energy and feelings of others. I think deeply about things and process some thoughts slowly.
I have been told many times that the people around me find this frustrating. Sometimes I find it frustrating too. I can barely go to concerts anymore, as the noise and the lighting and the crowds all make me incredibly uncomfortable, sometimes physically ill. There is a narrow hallway at work, and whenever I encounter a co-worker there, my breath catches. I can’t always think of what I want to say immediately. Sometimes I have to think for minutes, or hours, or days about my response. And I have a very strong sense of justice.
These are qualities that are both frustrating and rewarding. I like that I am quick to stand up against unfairness. I like that I think things through deeply and prepare honest and personal answers when I’m given a chance to think something through all the way. These are gifts. But I haven’t always felt that way.
If you’re sensitive like me and need help managing in a world that seems designed for those who don’t have to deal with a central nervous system that is always on, then The Empowered Highly Sensitive Person workbook might be just what you didn’t know you were always looking for. With chapters on what it is to be a Highly Sensitive Person, everyday life and social situations, relationships, work, health and self-care, and deeper work for those who are seeking more healing from past shames, this workbook offers real-life advice for situations that sensitive people find difficult.
While this book can’t automatically change you into a less sensitive person, it is invaluable for helping you reframe your sensitivities so you can see them for the gifts they are. It also encourages you to make allowances for yourself and find ways to be more prepared for those challenging moments when you need extra protection.
Author Amanda Cassil, a clinical psychologist known for her work with women and minorities working in STEM fields, understands how difficult, painful, and shaming it can be to be different. And she wants those who identify as Highly Sensitive to know that there is help, there are tools they can use (we can use!) to feel more empowered in situations that usually find us struggling.
How do I know that the exercises in The Empowered Highly Sensitive Person will work? Because I know that they helped me feel better about my sensitivities, to change my thinking about those who try to make me feel ashamed of being different, and to feel like I have tools to help me face those times where my sensitivities might otherwise overwhelm me. And if it helped me, it might be able to help you too. Seriously, if you’re a sensitive person, give it a try. You might find the help you never knew was available.
A copy of The Empowered Highly Sensitive Person was provided by Rockridge Press through the Callisto Media Publisher’s Club, with many thanks.

This HSP is looking forward to using this workbook during the 2020 spring covid19 quarantine. This is a high quality paperback with thick pages. There is a TOC and an index. As you would expect in a workbook, there are plenty of surveys and exercises (fill in the blank). Areas of concentration include social situations, relationships, work and self care. Honestly, a few of the sections felt a big “triggering” to me – but that is a sign that those are areas that I need to explore and work on.

I was really looking forward to receiving this HSP Workbook, as I tested off the charts for having this trait. Elaine Aron is the founder of HSP, which is a good place to start, if you think you have this trait. There is a test for it on her site. I think this book could of been helpful to me. Sadly my order was cancelled, so I can’t review it.

I did not expect this book to have such a huge impact on me. There were moments I had to put the book down because something would resonate with me so deeply. As an HSP, I have looked for resources that could provide me with researched insights on being an HSP combined with practical guidance on how to live a healthier life. This book did that and more. After reading the Empowered Highly Sensitive Person I now have the tools to not only live a healthier life but to thrive.
I found the chapter on relationships extremely helpful. I am constantly burnt out and the exercises on pages 51 and 67, consisting of insightful questions and reflection, led me on a journey of self discovery. After completing the exercises I feel better prepared to handle situations that have always been stressful for me. The chapter has also taught me how to have proper expectations, set healthy boundaries, and communicate better.
Thank you Dr. Cassil for writing this book. I know I will not be the only one who benefits from your wisdom.

Being as I am an HSP myself, this book – The Empowered Highly Sensitive Person: A Workbook to Harness Your Strengths in Every Part of Life – definitely caught my eye, so I decided to check it out and see what it was about. I’m so glad I did!
This is a good workbook for those who identify as an HSP and want to take it to the next level of applying that knowledge and understanding how to harness those parts of yourself to start living your best life. It gives lots of great exercises and questions to ponder for a deeper dive into thinking about what makes you tick, why and how you work that way, and what your strengths and weaknesses are.
I wasn’t sure it would give me any additional insight into things I didn’t already know about myself, but I was wrong. I got about halfway through the workbook, and came to a lot of “Aha” moments about myself already – as well as ways to utilize what I thought were “weaknesses” into more strengths for me, and reframe some of my beliefs about certain things.
There’s a lot of food for thought in here that touch on all aspects of your life, and suggests a lot of great coping tools you can use along the way to help you out. I think every person who is a HSP should get this and give it a shot, as it can allow you to reach a deeper understanding of yourself with more compassion – and it turns the control panel back over to you so that you can develop a plan that works for you when navigating through life and difficult issues.
Great workbook – I would give it ten stars if I could!

This is an interesting workbook. It is designed to help highly sensitive people understand and appreciate themselves and to assist them in developing coping skills for stressful situstion. There is a simple self assessment quiz in the beginning. The bulk of the book consists of well explained deceptively simple exercises. It would be helpful to use a notebook or journal to complete them and save the book for refernce. Nicely done.

At the beginning of the book, there’s a lot of research that distinguished a highly sensitive person from an empath or an introvert. This was helpful in determining where I fit in the spectrum. The prompts that follow encouraged me to have positive self-talk with myself, something I needed to do more often! *A free review copy was provided by publisher with no obligation.*

As I get older, I seem to be more of an HSP (overstimulated by too much noise, like more solitude, enjoy being with a small group of people instead of large crowds, etc.). This title is a good read for better understanding yourself and suggestions for taking action to better deal with situations that are more stressful for HSPs.
Around 160 pages, the book addresses many topics, including:
– What it means to be HSP.
– Characteristics of an HSP.
– Ways HSPs conduct themselves in everyday life.
– Suggestions in several realistic scenarios an HSP may be in and how to appropriately respond.
– Dealing with situations in work, relationships, health/self-care, etc.
Very readable, full of practical insights, and has plenty of questions to answer and exercises to complete. This is an excellent read and encouragement for learning to adapt with situations without changing the essence of who you are. Good read.

Wow, Dr. Cassil offers so much insight in a pleasing, easy to read, workbook. Though nothing like a textbook, this covers so many very important aspects of being an HSP. This is not just the basics; this is a carefully considered look at the kind of information that helps you dig deeper into who you are and how best to function. I’ve read quite a lot about HSPs over nearly 2 decades and this book stands out for how much useful information is given in an easy to read, not overlong package. On top of that, the workbook part is probing enough to really help.
Here’s an overview of what Dr. Cassil covers in each chapter:
1: The Highly Sensitive Person: depth of processing; ease of overstimulation; emotional intensity; sensory sensitivity and environmental subtleties; HSPs compared to introverts, extroverts and empaths; HSPs and society; understanding your past
2: Everyday Life and Social Situations: transition time; routine; curating environments; optimal level of stimulation; assessing stimulation levels; budgeting resources; automating activities; processing memories; whether or not to go to an event; mindful self-check; early messages
3: Relationships: HSPs in romantic relationships (intentional communication; shared experiences over competition; intentional solo time; curating good experiences; communicating effectively; managing guilt and shame; asking for help; giving and receiving feedback; identifying expectations); HSPs in familial relationships (setting boundaries; differing boundaries; identifying boundaries; labeling your boundaries; boundary challenges; bad fit framing; family of choice; parenting); HSPs in friendships (friendship superpowers; taking inventory of your expectations; limiting beliefs checklist; reframing the past; knowing yourself in friendships)
4: Work: HSPs and vocation; values assessment; evaluating your current circumstances; environmental considerations; early messages; appreciation over obligation; HSPs in the workplace; workplace superpowers; interpersonal challenges; environmental stressors; the people you see every day; transitions
5: Health and Self-Care: HSPs and healthcare; body awareness; mindfulness takeaways; reflecting on your health journey; HSPs and self-care; finding your movement; nurturing nutrition; self-care for a more effective you; prioritizing sleep; self-care vs. selfishness
6: Deeper Work: healing old wounds; rewriting your narrative with self-compassion; complementary approaches; barriers to healing; common challenging; self-parenting; independent assertiveness; embracing the learning process; managing and thriving; fostering appreciation; spirituality (faith, nature); spiritual inventory; field trip; identifying my needs; understanding needs;
Not only is this excellent is you already identify as an HSP, it makes a caring gift to introduce the concept to someone while also offering them guidance on proceeding so that they are not overwhelmed by the impact of the new information. This is not just another workbook.
But that’s JustMe. (I received this product in exchange for an honest review, and that is what I have offered here.)

This is a great resource to have! It has a great balance of having plenty of information to read through, as well as having a good amount of questions/journal responses. I love that they recognize challenges the HSP may have and also ways to help through specific areas…which makes the title of the book fitting, “The Empowered Highly Sensitive Person”.
Being a HSP that did not fully learn I was until my adult years– and have chronic illnesses, including anxiety– this is a great resource to have. I really like that the book touches on the health aspect and even how the HSP can sometimes face the challenge of having doctors dismiss their concerns and/or symptoms. I can definitely relate to that, so it’s reassuring to know others have been in similar situations.
There is so much helpful stuff in this book- yet it is not overwhelming- such as communication tips and mindfulness.
The quality of the book is nice, as well, and the pages are nice and thick for being able to write on.
I am really liking it!

This is a must-buy book for anyone who suspects they are a highly sensitive person. I’ve known pretty much my entire life that I’m more sensitive than the average person and it seems to be even more so the case as I get older. It’s something most friends and family know about me, but since I hide it as much as possible, few know the true extent. If nothing else, this book made me realize I’m not alone and that there’s nothing “wrong” with me… I’m just an HSP.
I’m still making my way through the workbook portion of this book, but I have read through each of the sections and could relate to almost all of it (of course, everyone is different and some parts didn’t resonate with me as much as others). It was especially helpful to read about how I’m constantly processing things and how draining this can be.
The book is helping me to see my sensitivity as a gift, though it’s hard to break away from some of the “shame” I still feel from being so sensitive. I do want to go through some of the book with my husband, too… though he understands me quite well, I think this book will help him understand what I go through even more.
I highly recommend this book for anyone who has always felt like they may be more sensitive than the average person… Especially if this is constantly draining for them.

I can’t speak highly enough about this book. It’s incredibly validating. For those who have struggled their whole lives with feeling easily overwhelmed, or having a hard time moving past negative experiences, it can feel like the author hit the nail right on the head. Multiple times when reading the book I said to myself, “oh, that’s why!”, feeling insight into issues that I have carried my whole life.
The teaching pages and paragraphs are just the right length. There’s no fluff, I found each sentence to be important and well thought out to illustrate the point. I found the activities to be helpful to deepen the understanding.
Feeling very lucky to have this book. I feel like it’s speaking directly to me and my experience.

Naming it really helps to get you on a starting point. I have known for some time that I am highly sensitive, an empath, and hadn’t realized how much my environment was a trigger for me. In one exercise I had conflicting modes- a perception of the past I had to heal to allow me to move towards to the environment I needed to feel at peace. The big section for me was at the back of the book: therapy. This may be an area you can afford or buy books to start you on the healing journey. Empowering requires honesty and that some old traumas may also be stopping you from taking control of an environment that is harming/overpower you. Take the exercises, and learn. One common theme I noticed is to structure your day with 3 Max must do tasks. Then forgive yourself if today ended by being an off day. The books does help to give you some tools to structure. I use a 2 page calendar with enough space to jot down to-do list.

After reading this through the beginning of the book I realize I’m not a highly sensitive person. However, my son seems to be. This will work great for him. It even has tips for parenting an HSP. I learned so much. This is a workbook that allows you to stick to a very strict schedule. Obviously you won’t be able to follow it every day as things do come up. But I am now realizing that my son really need the schedule. We were on somewhat of a schedule before but it wasn’t strict. This gives you room to put something in your schedule for every hour. There are a lot of really great tips to help live a more “normal” life.

ive really been enjoying this work book. I’ve almost completed the last chapter and I genuinely feel like I know myself a lot better, I know how to handle people/situations better and the best part is it teaches you those things by showing you whats best for YOU.

I only found out a few weeks ago that I am easily overstimulated by sound. I found out by doing a test on the 5 sense.
Then I started searching and found out about HSP .
Because I thought it was all none scientific ( new Agy ) i knever boughdered to check out what HSP is about. I did some online tests that showed I am HSP. I found this book it seemed to be build in sientific research . So last week I started reading this book and it rocks my world I recordenice about 90 % of it in myself .
I have had quit some therapie in my life and read a lot on psychologie/ self help books etc. But I knever seemed to ( heal ) totally .
Now I recordnice that it has been a over sensitive nerve system all along. This seems to answer most of my lives struggle that feels like one big miracle answer to most of my problems, this makes me happy on the other hand this book makes me reevaluate my life with the lens of a HSP what is totally awesome / helpsome. On the other hand it is like stepping in to therapie again which cost me a lot( energy) So I want to read this book al at ones and implement all there is in my life at ones because off the depth off the answers that it provides . This works counterproductive because I get overstimulated.
So I am going to buy this book in print to and work thrue it on the long whalw.
One word : Mindblowing ( I a good way 🙂)

I didn’t realize there was a term for people like me other than “too sensitive” and “super neurotic” and “really high strung.” So glad I stumbled upon this book. It makes me feel less crazy and gives me tools for how to better maneuver the world. Love it.

I was prescribed Depakote to lessen my sensitivity to my environment making me calmer but it isn’t a tranquilizer. It prevents agitation rather than subdues it. Great book! This book also addresses HSP seniors having more history to process and heal from. Highly recommend!!! lol Miss Daisy

The Empowered Highly Sensitive Person a workbook is written by a clinical psychologist, this is a workbook for empaths to work through. After reviewing what a highly sensitive person is, the book is divided into sections for every day life, relationships, work, health and self-care, and then some deeper work. The book is written in a professional tone it is not colloquial, it feels a bit sterile. It wasn’t a good fit for me. I already am good with some of the things that this is attempting to teach.
