This is a great bundle. Ms. Telford makes a great connection between Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Mindfulness. I was already familiar with both concepts but it had been years since I was in therapy and my therapist suggested mindfulness practice. I jumped at the chance to take advantage of receiving an ARC of these books. As I read the books it amazed me at how much of this I retained and how I am still practicing several of the techniques. These books are well laid out and easy to understand. Ms. Telford gives explanations, examples and summaries of what it takes to build better habits, the importance of gratitude and paying attention in your life. She explains how to hone in on thinking patterns that can make you feel bad and great examples of how to change which results in less stress and anxiety in your life. I highly recommend this bundle.

This was an unexpectedly extremely interesting book to read. The author does an excellent job of explaining cognitive behavioral therapy. The book left me wanting to use cbt methods to improve aspects of my own life. It is mind boggling to know that the Lord created us in such an intricate way. Trying to understand how our minds work is overwhelming. I love how this book makes it a bit easier to understand. The mindfulness portion of the book is fascinating. I can’t wait to simply begin to use mindfulness toward the goal of simplifying my life. This is not my first experience with Ms. Telford’s books. I have enjoyed each one of I have the opportunity to read.

I highly suggest this book to anyone looking for practical, simple techniques to lighten, lift and improve your way through life. The author uses terms and explanations that are very understandable with exercises that are useable, immediately; addressing a comprehensive set of both serious (for example, addiction or depression) as well as everyday challenges (for example, insomnia or problem solving). The two books bundled into one, go together like salt and pepper, Life is better with both. The discussion of CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) provides tools and insights for living better with my thoughts/feelings while the part on Mindfulness improves life through a clear and centered consciousness. The author builds in recommendations for when to seek outside help and offers additional resources, such as an online community and audio version. This is a book that I am going to reread and keep practicing to deepen the benefits from the wealth of information it offers.

I wanted to read this set of books because I want to understand better the issues that a young relative is having with extreme anxiety. I liked that there is a lot of detailed explanation to explain each of the issues, what causes them, how to support improvement of the issues. Each chapter has a nice summary to wind up the concepts I had just read about. There are separate sections for anxiety, depression and other issues so it was easy to focus on a single issue without too much extra information taking away from that particular topic. Destructive thought patterns are not easy to change, but I feel like I can be more understanding and supportive after reading this book (i.e. first half)

I ended up really enjoying the second book which is on mindfulness purely for myself. It is such a simple concept, yet even though I have been reading about it and trying to practice it, it can be difficult when things are going wrong. Like with the first book (first half), there are really nice explanations of the history of mindfulness and it’s benefits along with how to practice. The summaries are great reminders to read just on their own as a review of the book.

This book gives a good theoretical introduction to CBT, but what I really appreciated are the practical tips, techniques and exercises. I like that there are individual chapters dealing with depression, insomnia, anxiety, OCD, procrastination, guilt, addition, jealousy, etc. So you do not need to read a chapter if you do not struggle with that issue, and instead can go directly to the chapters that are most relevant. The summaries at the end of each chapter are really helpful. This is a self-help book that is not too long, heavy or demanding (as many self-help books are), which means it is likely to be read by and truly help more people. I will be re-reading relevant chapters again, and will also dive back in to the summaries regularly. I have read several of Olivia Telford’s books, and I think this one is her best yet. Congratulations Olivia – and thank you!

If you never took cognitive psychology in college, this book offers a well-organized and thoughtfully written introduction to the topic. I found myself wishing I’d had this knowledge decades ago. This bundle provides concrete strategies if you are desiring positive life changes. To fully take advantage of the author’s work, be prepared to have a journal at the ready. She provides pertinent questions for self-reflection and journaling. Telford has a no non-sense, common sense approach for dealing with anxiety, procrastination, anger, bad habits, insomnia, and more, and she also is careful to remind the reader that serious disorders my require the help of a counselor or medical professional. If you’re searching for strategies and tips for navigating life more smoothly, I highly recommend this book. Working through the chapters is like having your own life coach, only cheaper! Thank you Olivia Telford, for writing this book, that I know I will be referring to frequently.

This book is an excellent intoduction to the goals of CBT. Whether self examing your life or deciding to seek therapy for assistance in navigating your life, this book will give you a full understanding of CBT. The author gives practical examples with step by step instructions to start helping yourself. The last chapter which speaks to mindfullness therapy or MBCT explains how Cognitive Therapy helps you identify your thoughts and take actions to improve your behavior, while Mindfullness is focusing on being present in each moment and accepting your thoughts. The book is well layed out and you can go to a chapter that speaks to you. If you are wanting to enlist the help of a therapist you will know to ask if they use CBT or MBCT to further your journey.

This book is not a psychology textbook, but rather a basic, down-to-earth, easy-to-read guidebook for applying Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Mindfulness in your life.

I especially appreciated the practical nature of the included exercises and the step-by-step approach. I know I will be referring back to several of these exercises again and again.

I also appreciated the author’s guilt-free, kind tone used throughout the book.

The content area is quite broad ranging from depression and addiction to common hang ups like procrastination and holding grudges.

If you already have a lot of experience with CBT and Mindfulness, you might find this book too basic, but if it’s been awhile it would be an excellent refresher.

Great book! The concepts presented for CBT are often viewed as complex, but the author did an excellent job at breaking them down to make them easier for the reader to understand. As someone passionate about personal development, I also liked that there was “homework” assigned so that you could apply the material. There were chapters designated to specific topics such as CBT for depression and anxiety. This allowed me to jump to the section I was most interested in or needed to reference again, which was nice to have. Additionally, I enjoyed the information on mindfulness as I recommend it to everyone and love that it is used in conjunction with CBT – a powerful combo! I honestly found the book to be an insightful and enlightening read. I would recommend it to anyone who wants to deepen their understanding of CBT and mindfulness and learn how to apply these concepts to their lives. The book is a guide to support the reader on their journey to transform their life!

This book has been a great eye-opener to me as I realize a part of my mindset had been so focused on illogical errors in my decision-making about particular patterns that I’ve been repeating for a while has given me a reason to STOP which I quickly realize the thoughts that kept repeating became more unhelpful during the moment I needed to encourage myself or to be patient with family members and it also reminds me to step back and adjust my perception. I like I could write the exercise while reading this book to get a better understanding of Cognitive-behavioral Therapy for when I actually experience certain behaviors or thoughts that could create more distress in my life. LOve the boOk!

This author is informative and gives useful, practical tips and strategies that work! She has done her homework. I practice and teach mindfulness, and she truly knows what she is talking about. I have used these exercises to relax and bring calm to my life. I loved reading both books! I am learning so much with the homework exercises with CBT. Thank you for writing these books. They have been insightful and a blessing to me. Any reader can benefit from these books.

I have been reading and reviewing this author’s work for several years, and I always find her books to be well written and researched. She often writes on hot-button topics like mindfulness and hygge, but her writing and information are usually a cut above others who write on the same topics. I found the two books in this bundle helpful and filled with excellent information. Here are my original reviews:

Review of Cognitive Behavior Therapy: Insightful, Practical Guide to CBT
I have read several books by Olivia Telford, the others on minimalism and hygge, and I was interested to see what her take on a very different topic like cognitive behavioral therapy would be. I have read several books on CBT and found them to be confusing or impractical. As CBT is grounded in science, it needs to be explained in a way that a layperson could understand and ideally in a practical manner as well, which pretty much every other book I’ve read on CBT has failed at. I’m happy to say that Ms. Telford has made both an easily understandable book and a practical one. She clearly lays out what CBT is, including its history and variations. Then she leads the reader through ways that CBT can help in a variety of situations like depression, insomnia, anxiety, addiction, and even nonclinical mental issues like procrastination. She gives several tools along the way, most of which can be used for more than one problem. While each individual section is brief, if followed, it would give you insight into your thoughts and give you ways to break the chains that hold you back. All in all, I thought this book was a wonderful introduction to cognitive behavioral therapy as well as a practical, hands-on guide if you believe self-help would assist you with any of the book’s subjects.

Review of Mindfulness: Practical Exercises to Help with Mindfulness
Mindfulness definitely seems to be a buzzword these days. This book attempts to define it and help you use it to help your life, both dealing with the negatives and cultivating the positives. The book is relatively simple and straightforward beginning with the definition of mindfulness, some simple exercises, and meditation information and techniques. The first section after that goes into detail about destructive negatives, like stress, anger, and anxiety, that mindfulness could potentially help with. The next section looks at how mindfulness can be used to help build better habits (or beat bad ones), relationships, and perhaps a better life. Both of these practical sections have a little article about the topic and include mindfulness exercises that the author believes will help. One tiny little thing bugged me. The author clearly states at the beginning that mindfulness is not meditation, yet she includes meditation in the subtitle, perhaps making the potential reader think that meditation is the only way that mindfulness can be achieved or that this book is only about mindfulness through meditation. As noted above, meditation does have its own chapter, but the exercises in the rest of the book don’t focus on meditation.

I received a free copy of this book, but that did not affect my review.

This book is well written, understandable, and practical. I am a 70 year old retired male that still has so much to learn despite having four academic degrees. The life changing lesson that you have control over your emotional reaction but not the circumstance is so true. I wish I had applied this truth to my life when I suffered burnout when I was 52, and my career was destroyed. I was fortunate to recover, but if I had this book at the time of my burnout it would have eliminated so much unnecessary emotional pain.

Such a helpful guide for understanding cognitive behavioral therapy and mindfulness. The applications were easy to understand and the exercises were user-friendly.

    Hi Olivia,
Nice work. Clearly laid out. You simplified complex conditions into an easy to implement self-help while gently urging those with chronic condition(s) as to what types of therapies are used professionals. I can see where that would reduce the fear or resistance to seek help.
    Best wishes!
    Donna
