Description

Does not contain an access card. A lot goes on in your head when you’re doing something simple like remembering (or forgetting!) to do your next assignment. Bruce Goldstein explains all this activity going on in your mind in COGNITIVE PSYCHOLOGY: CONNECTING MIND, RESEARCH, AND EVERYDAY EXPERIENCE. Concrete examples and illustrations help you understand both the scientific importance of theories and their relevance to you, including research-based suggestions for better ways to study. MindTap brings the experiments to life with interactive demos and CogLab: The Online Cognition Lab. You can participate in experiments as a subject and experience the effects of the demonstrations yourself to learn how the mind works.

  1. I purchased the electronic version of this book for my online class. 10/10 this book was incredibly well designed and very helpful. I’m not sure if it’s the structure of how they set it up but it was just really easy to read and understand the material. Sometimes reading a textbook can feel like you’re trying to walk through quicksand… it’s slow, arduous, and you quickly get stuck but with this textbook, I effortlessly read through the assigned chapters each week and I was able to understand and apply the material to our assignments/discussion boards.

  2. It gives you the information you need to learn Cognitive Psychology, but it is not as efficient as it could be. The information is certainly interesting, however, the presentation perhaps could be improved.
-The author uses a few too many personal examples. The examples may be enhanced by using diverse experiences more relatable to a student.
-The graphs aren’t always on the same page as the information; sometimes they’re on the next page (turned page) and can make referencing a bit tedious.
-For as much as the book mentions brain anatomy, an actual diagram of a brain would have been useful for reference (labeling the hippocampus, amygdala, cortex, etc…).

An example of a possible error: “Temporal Context Model (TCM)” is bolded as signifying its definition is in the back of the book (specifically on page 443); however, it is not.

  4. I think this book is great and well written and organized! My only complaint is that it is very hard for accessibility reader on tablet to navigate. I wish it was like some textbooks that have the audio enabled.
