Description

There’s no one-size-fits-all treatment for BPD—especially if you have a coexisting condition. BPD rarely occurs alone.  For the first time, this groundbreaking guide offers a tailored approach to managing the symptoms of complex BPD.

If you’ve been diagnosed with borderline personality disorder (BPD), or suspect that you might have it, you should know that not everyone experiences the condition in the same way. BPD actually manifests on a spectrum, and while some people may encounter extreme symptoms and consequences on one end, others may be less affected on the other. In addition, if you’re struggling with other conditions—such as bipolar disorder, depression, psychotic symptoms, attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), or Complex PTSD (C-PTSD)—you may have complex BPD (C-BPD), and may benefit from expanding your knowledge and building your skills, so you can seek out a symptom management plan that is tailored to your unique needs.

In Complex Borderline Personality Disorder, psychologist and BPD expert Daniel J. Fox offers a new understanding and awareness of the complexity of BPD, and helps you lay the groundwork needed to manage your symptoms more effectively. You’ll find checklists of specific symptoms to help you identify coexisting conditions related to BPD. And with this guide, you’ll feel more empowered to move forward in your life with all the knowledge, skills, and abilities you’ve learned.

A clinician’s guide is available as a downloadable resource for therapists wishing to use this book with their clients.

This really helped me understand how my co-occurring conditions affect my bpd. The section on bipolar and bpd helped me tremendously. Gonna read it again and really use this in conjunction with my bpd workbooks because it’s just that good. I love Dr Daniel Fox too. I love that he’s knowledgeable and that his books are easy to implement and understand. This is great.

For anyone suffering from CBPD, or anyone living with someone suffering from CBPD, then this book could be for you. It could also be used to assist health care workers treating CBPD sufferers. The book offers a very clinical and complex analysis of the condition, an in-depth look at the condition with examples of the different ranges of symptoms. It has some wonderful strategies for self diagnosis as well as some great ideas to help yourself and your loved ones in managing and dealing with the various issues. I particularly loved the journaling and multiple choice questions/quiz profiling. It’s not very easy to read and absorb, I had to concentrate to be able to take it all in. I found it easier to highlight/write notes on the things that were relevant to me, and then skim/speed read over certain other things. All that said, it was an extremely insightful read. I received an advanced copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley. This is my honest review.

I highly recommend this practical guide to BPD and complex BPD. Dr. Fox has written a warm and empathetic handbook from decades of clinical experience. The vignettes describing people struggling with and overcoming BPD are helpful, and the exercises are a road map to understanding the roots of BPD and feeling better. I definitely recommend this book to anyone seeking a greater understanding of BPD and especially those searching for a toolkit to bring them back to wellness.

I love the info, so for clinical purposes, 5.

But argh! Get over the political language environment.

That said, I think some of the illustrative examples are a little drawn out, but I guess they help. Over all, it’s a good resource. I recommend at least reading it. The insight is probably going to be valuable, even if you find the PC language tedious.

I’ve really enjoyed the insights and activities in this book.

Since borderline personality disorder stems from trauma, I wonder why he left out dissociative identity disorder from the comorbid list. I have no regrets for ordering this book and I am almost done with his work book also. BUT! I dissociate with alters and wonder if he will ever address this trauma related disorder in the future.

    ***Great Resource***
Dr. Fox does an excellent job of providing insight to the nuances of borderline personality disorder and bipolar disorder. His ability to describe each disorder separately as well as their overlap with each other and other disorders is refreshing compared to other books and manuals.
I have only had this book a short time and I have already referenced it on multiple occasions when conceptualizing and/or diagnosing clients and patients. Additionally, I gained a clearer understanding of the effects of psychotropic medication for individuals with BPD vs. bipolar disorder. I particularly admire his ability to bring awareness to outside factors and less salient disorders that may exist with BPD without becoming sidetracked. As a clinician, I especially appreciated the detailed vignettes.
This book was very informative and helped me to gain a better understanding about how these co-occurring conditions and their resulting symptoms can vary so greatly between individuals and impact their treatment needs. The highlighting of this individualization, in my opinion, is crucial in a society where clinicians and clients can become so complacent with assigning categories.
I believe that this book can be a very useful tool for clinicians and clients alike, therefore helping many individuals as well as family members’ of individuals who are struggling with mental health issues.

I first started watching his YouTube channel, which led me to find his books. Easy to read with enough detail to feel like you’re finally understanding this complex disorder.

This is a great resource for multiple reasons not just BPD specifically. I have BPD, ADHD, CPTSD and I’m bipolar. This is a great book for understanding loved ones more or understanding yourself more.
