For people confused about why we need the DSM, the other reviews at the time I am writing this give an unfortunate image of the level of professionalism some hold. Too many incompetent self absorbed individuals with clinical licenses are reactive and will project diagnoses on clients. The DSM gives set criteria that if morons go rogue, there is an agreed set of objective rules that can be used to hold them accountable. Are there many things wrong with the DSM? Yes, but as long as people that suck keep getting licenses we will still need something.
To the old retired out of touch people with clinical degrees and the old, should probably retire, out of touch people with clinical degrees. Product review sections are not a therapists offices. Also to anyone confused about how continuing education works, you sign up for those. If the CEs you’re taking are focusing on pushing the DSM or pharmaceuticals maybe sign up for different CEs. Complaining about the CEs you sign up for more reflects on your comprehension of what you sign up for or your lack of caring about staying current and following best practices.

It’s the DSM plain and simple. Unlike the other clearly unhinged reviewers I’m not going to use this as an opportunity to spout my thoughts about the profession or the APA. I purchased this because as a professional helping folks who need to use their insurance to access care I need to be able to provide an accurate diagnosis and rationale. We haven’t had to buy one for nine years and text revision versions are usually pretty similar to the original. You could probably get away with not buying it as criteria will leak online slowly.

Unlike the last edition, I personally feel this was easier to follow. I like how the changes they made were briefly mentioned upfront and then you could look to that section within it to read more. Interesting cover with the sheen.

But boy the price difference between the dsm 5 and this is a hard pill to swallow. If youre a poor college student and dont absolutely need the latest and greatest version my prof said the dsm 5 is fine for class. Since I already bought the TR I hope to get alot of use out of this $160 book in the future. Best of luck!

I came on here because I’ve seen a few reviews claiming their copies were fake. It made me nervous, so I checked the Fiber Tag QR code on the back of my book, which confirmed that the book is indeed authentic. I then unwrapped it from the plastic and went through the entire book page by page. Every page is there. For the person who said their copy only had 1050 pages, mine also says page 1050 on the last page. However, if you count the preface, introduction, and contents pages, you’ll find the exact 70 pages not included in that 1050 number…so there are 1120 printed pages after all. I managed to dodge a bullet, apparently, but buyers beware. You are getting a good deal but it is may be hit or miss whether you receive a genuine copy. If that’s a risk you are willing to take, you could save $150 like I did. Or…you could end up with a garbage copy you have to return and ship for $15. The choice is yours. 🙂

In reading other reviews, many posted about their DSM having scratches or dents. Because these are being sold by the APA, I’m pretty sure the scratches and dents are what make them so much cheaper than the other posting by APA that lists the price at over $100. I’m more concerned about the book being authentic than a few scratches on the cover. This was 1000% worth every penny. If you are super picky and don’t like scratches on the cover, spend the extra money for the more expensive one, lol.

When considering this is around $150 elsewhere, you are getting a good deal. Granted, it is not a perfect book in terms of looks. It has some fading on some pages and a few scratches on the cover, but for the price, I am fine with that. It has a seal on the back from the APA, so I trust this is a real deal. It just may have been not perfect enough to sell at the insane price point of $150. Maybe these were found in a dumper outside a printing press in India. Who knows. The book was shipped from India and packed to look like drugs. At least, that is what my husband thought when he received the package. But regardless, it is the updated DSM for a rock-bottom price. This comes in handy when you’re a counseling intern and are not paid.

I was unsure about ordering this DSM 5 copy because of the reviews I read about fake copies received. But for this price , which is less than half of what I have to pay elsewhere, I decided to take a risk with it.
I verified the QR code at the back of the book, and it seems to be authentic. So I’m happy with my copy.
I’m not sure what happened with folks who received a fake copy, but I’m glad I didn’t.

It also helped me find specific symptoms for the final project which required that the characters display the symptoms so that they could be diagnosed.

Well, you can definitely tell this is pretty much the new version, because it includes what one identifies themselves as. I say, this is an easy fix. Next time you go to the bathroom . . . CHECK where the urine comes out from. It’s really not that difficult. Of course, I am almost 58, so I can not relate to this state of confusion. But, it is a very handsome-looking tome that seems to be well illustrated.
