There are self-help grounding exercises to do before Andler guides readers through each step of the the 8-phase treatment process to healing. Writing is a bit small but the book covers everything you’d need to know before starting emdr therapy.

Extremely good, clear, and very helpful – outlines the therapeutic method in accessible and managable sections for those who want to use EMDR for self-help.
This book also makes clear that if someone has a severe mental health problem, or extremely disturbed symptoms from PTSD, then trying to treat one’s own symptoms is not the way forward.

This has been really handy while I am going through EMDR therapy with my psychologist. It’s written in “plain” English so it’s easy for anyone to understand. I like you can keep a journal at the back. It’s definitely recommended

A little hard to get through but informative

This book is an excellent way to help oneself discover healing on their own.
It doesn’t take the place of therapy yet it does take the place of the torment.
Having PTSD and suffering through the many emotional torments, this book has helped me identify “touchstone” triggers and get rid of them
Understanding the underlying cause of the trauma is quite freeing.

I now have a better understanding of how EMDR therapy works and I am looking forward to my first session.

Providing the background to EMDR was nice to read. The information while possibly difficult to complete on your own is definitely a good reference to try to work off of.

Very simple but works.

The book is short, clear, and well written. I am not personally comfortable with the idea of treating PTS and major trauma on your own, without a therapist, but the book gives an excellent overview of the process. Readers can decide for themselves whether EMDR is right for them, and also whether elements of it can be usefully incorporated into other therapies.

This book is a great starting point to understand EMDR.. IF USED WITH THE RESOURCES PROVIDED WITH IN IT WILL ASSIST YOU WITH GETTING ON TRACK WITH THE BENIFITS OF EMDR EVEN IF YOU DON’T HAVE A THERAPIST. AND WITH A THERAPIST YOU WILL BENIFIT EVEN MORE. ONE WORD I DO BELIEVE PRAYER WORKS BUT YOU MUST COMPLIMENT PRAYER WITH TOOLS THAT CAN HELP YOUR MIND TO RID ITSELF OF UNPRODUCTIVE THOUGHTS , EMOTIONS, UNRESOLVED CONFLICTS SO THAT YOU CAN ALLOW HEALING TO BEGIN TO HAPPEN AND CLEAR YOUR MIND TO ALLOW RESTORATION.. I HOPE THIS REVIEW CAUSE SOMEONE TO TRY THIS TOOL….

Amazing! Changed my life! I followed the workbook and honestly…. This is a gem!
I do recommend a counselor who uses EMDR and learning basic stress reducing techniques before applying what you learn in this book.
It takes diligence to process past traumas.

Not sure I would attempt on my own, but it is helpful knowing the process as I contemplate what is best.

I didn’t want to read the huge text book & was looking for something digestible & helpful. I think this gave me all the information I needed to get started with EMDR & even included links to great YouTube videos. If you have the time and energy (and money) for the textbook, I’m sure it’s best, but this is a really great summary. I think of the blank journal pages as a bonus. I rarely write reviews but I think the negative reviews here are unfair & wanted to share my experience.

Great book especially for someone who has already been exposed or would like summary if information of what EMDR is and the process of EMDR therapy.

This is a well written book with easy to follow directions. I found it more detailed than the instructions that I got from my therapist. I thin therapists should assign this as a reading to their patients. I think I would’ve got a lot more out of my EMDR therapy, if I knew this prior to starting therapy.

Im very thankful to have found this book! Its really to the point and gives all the info one would need to try this therapy out on themselves.

It was fantastic! You will get out of it as much as you put into it. This was definitely something I’ve been needing but can’t afford the time and money to go to therapy. This had everything I needed. Completed my fist session today and it worked!!! You will love it.

This is a step by step guide to what an EMDR Therapy session looks like. It is helpful because it relieves the stress of the unknown which comforts the person receiving the therapy. It also equips the person with tools they can use to process emotions they are struggling to process, and establish coping techniques to help as they are triggered. Highly recommend for anyone seeking to improve coping skills or just wants to understand what EMDR therapy is and how it might help them with their struggles. Talk therapy has only helped me so much.. EMDR actually has taken mt therapy to the next level and is helping to reduce the number of things that trigger me.

I bought this for a friend who was struggling to find her way after decades of emotional and physical abuse.
She has thanked me and said the book is very helpful.
She seems to be finding her way back to a place where she can live and love life.

The instructions contained are clear and concise. I have not yet employed the technique, therefore at this point 4 stars until I can assess try and assess.

Will take awhile to actually work through this workbook. Seems to have a lot of great content in self development, and healing from a variety of different mental issues. Work on the underlying trauma’s that have to be addressed, and corrected to have normal cognition, and a overall better life.

Written in simple terms. I appreciate that at my level of learning with low comprehension.
I feel good and safe about trying it.
I brought 2 of these, 1 was for a present for a friend who suffers with anxiety so this is perfect for her. Thank you I am very happy with my purchases. (verified owner) –
