Description

Practical skills for healing the hidden wounds of childhood trauma

We’re all a product of our childhood, and if you’re like most people, you have experienced some form of childhood trauma. Adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) are at the root of nearly all mental health disorders, including depression, anxiety, panic disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Memories associated with ACEs imprint on a child’s brain, and can manifest themselves mentally and physically throughout adulthood—even decades after the traumatic incident. So, how can you begin healing the deep wounds of ACEs and build strength and resilience?

In this innovative workbook, trauma specialist Glenn Schiraldi presents practical, evidence-based skills to help you heal from ACEs. In addition to dealing with the symptoms, you’ll learn to address the root cause of your suffering, change the way your brain responds to stress and the outside world, and soothe troubling memories.

Using the trauma-informed and resilience-building practices in this book, you will:

  • Understand how toxic childhood stress is affecting your health
  • Rewire disturbing imprints in your brain using cutting-edge skills
  • Learn how to regulate stress and emotional arousal
  • Discover why traditional psychological approaches might not be helping
  • Know when and how to find the right kind of therapy

Childhood trauma doesn’t have to define you for the rest of your life. With this book as your guide, you will be able to make fundamental changes and replace needless suffering with self-care, security, and contentment.

Thoreau said, “For every thousand hacking at the leaves of evil, there is one striking at the root.”
In my mind, Dr. Schiraldi’s latest book is the one striking at the root.

Here’s why – It addresses the fundamental problem that millions of people struggle with.

I bought two copies for now. One for me, and one to give away to someone I thought this might help. I am sure I will buy more to give away to other friends.

This book speaks to heart of the real issues that people carry with them year after year from the time they are the most vulnerable. This isn’t a text book. It’s a work book to help people work through those problems. It is based on sound principles. And it can help you!

There is no way to write a simple review on a book that is so powerful, yet so compassionate in the way it touches and changes you. I’ve always heard so much about Dr. Schiraldi (as he’s world renowned for truly understanding the deep emotions of people) and getting to the source of why we become who we are without feeling traumatized. But never did I expect such insight into myself. NO ONE goes through life without wounds that define us from our early years. Understanding them makes us stronger, kinder and better adults. I learned SO much about myself that was revealed by walking through these exercises. A masterful and eye opening read that I couldn’t put down and cannot recommend highly enough!!! Best book on this topic hands down!!!! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟As a fan of many of Dr. Schiraldi’s books, this is my favorite. Relatable to everyone, and it’s changed my life and empowered me. Knowing yourself does that!

  4. ACEs AWARENESS (verified owner)

I intended to use this product for Student Traumas and my childhood K-12 education. Unfortunately it only addresses childhood traumas within families. Personally I’m offended that no doctors addresses or medically treats ( as if institutions allowanced & legalized child abuse & qualified immuned professionals didn’t exist at all) Institutional child abuse in USA Education. Therefore it wasn’t helpful for me. Although I do support groups end it has helped some others I work with.

A great book for anyone interested in better understanding our childhood experiences, life experiences and the effects they have on our lives. Dr. Schiraldi’s book offers insightful information to better understand our life experiences, the behavior that may be associated with these experiences and practical methods to improve our way of thinking in a positive direction. His book is skillfully organized to begin with an explanation and awareness of Adverse Childhood Experiences, then lays out practical and effective exercises to address areas of personal concern. I think this book will be of great value to individuals seeking a way to manage positive progress toward understanding Adverse Childhood Experiences and easy to understand and practical methods to track positive results. Dr. Schiraldi’s book is also a great learning document, guide and resource for professionals interested in furthering their knowledge of this topic.

This workbook is for anyone who wants to go through the hard work of recovery with a compassionate guide. I recommend this book for its gentle way to process the trauma of ACES.

  8. Carol Parnell Prevost (verified owner)

In his latest workbook “The Adverse Childhood Experiences Recovery Workbook”, Dr. Schiraldi does a superb job of explaining the role toxic stress in childhood plays on the neurology of brain development and how it affects our mental and physical health later in life. Additionally, he provides powerful exercises to help people adversely affected to help identify the source of their problem(s) and truly heal – not just apply a band aid on the symptom(s). This workbook is a valuable resource for individuals who are the suffering the ill effects of adverse childhood experiences and for those who provide care for people with health issues. I highly recommend this workbook for both.

If you aren’t ready to deal with issues then don’t buy this book. It is an excellent resource that doesn’t push you. It’s a great guide that is written in plain language and provides very useful info.

This is a fantastic book for anyone who would like to work on their suppressed childhood traumas that are holding them back form living a life full of love, peace and joy. If you want to change who you are you have to start within yourself. The payoff is priceless because you are priceless. You are worth your time and efforts. Start slow and take your time. Life is more about the journey then the finish line. This book has many tools to help you. Stay focused and find your way to freedom.

This book (and all of Schiraldi’s work) is not only an excellent educational tool for deepening one’s understanding of their own Adverse Childhood Experiences, but it is also a guide that gently walks you through overcoming the adverse effects related to them. It is well written, thoughtfully organized, and has immense informational integrity. I recommend this book for any person, no matter what their own childhood experiences entailed, who wants to INCREASE THE QUALITY of their personal life, relationships, and or future flourishing/healing.

Ever wonder just ‘why’ you do or say some of the things you do? Read this.

  16. Ouzola Customer (verified owner)

The book is great. It turned out that I had “5” in ACE score. The book helps a lot, it is concise, to the point, but the only thing is that you have to follow the instructions to the letter, which is hard, because we are Facebook people, we are not in the habit of meditating things, etc., but that is the only way to go with the book.Anyway, the book works. I can feel huge changes taking place.

Healing is tough, but so worth it. I hope you have a good support system and I wish you the best! Good book.

I liked all the information related to trauma, and somatic exercises, because they go in-line with other authors that he also mentions in this book.
The exercises are very interesting, relatively easy to do, and well explained, and again, they go well with all the theory of somatic work for people dealing with childhood trauma ( neglect, abuse, etc) that it is around in other books and sources.
The reason I give only 4 stars is because I felt bit “forced” to believe in god. The author mentions a couple of studies from a university, I think, saying that people who follow a religion and believe in god had higher self esteem and are happier in general. I will look into more detail on how those studies were conducted, but I don’t believe that by believing or worshiping a higher entity, will give you a good self esteem. How about those kids sexually bused by priests, how about people who believe in God only because they are fearful of hell, or karma…? Religion could be good and positive for some, but not for all. Believing in something can make some people have a sense of comfort and I understand that, but not everybody needs that type of comfort. I didn’t appreciate the subtle way in the book to persuade me about the need to believe in a god to be happier and have a good self esteem. Then why bother to do all these exercises if by believing in god, and following a religion, I will have a good chance to improve? But I have to say that the part where god is mentioned is just a short chapter, so I skipped the exercise part of it.

This book is well written and thoughtfully paced. I’m working my way through it and I consider it very helpful.

  20. M.K. (verified owner)

This book does provide adequate information about ACE’s. I was a bit disappointed in the worksheets provided. There really wasn’t that much to do. I expected actual exercises.

  21. jf (verified owner)

This book has helped me so much I highly recommend reading this book.

  22. Susie501 (verified owner)

This workbook is so helpful for my trauma clients. It really helps them understand that their issues are not their fault, but that they can move from the identity of wounded victim to an identity of empowered survivor. However, it is important to let clients move at their own pace and to help them with ways to feel safe and regulate their emotions as they work through the book. I believe that all therapists would benefit from training in childhood trauma as it is most often the cause of both mental and physical ailments/disorders throughout one’s lifespan. Ask yourself “How did I learn to feel this way about myself?”

  23. Lori Stanis (verified owner)

I bought this for a friend who was in need of help getting through some childhood trauma. She has been working through the book and making some great progress.

  24. Ruth Hoban (verified owner)

I work on it a little at a time and always uncover a memory or learn something new about myself. Super inclusive, and encourages kindness towards self. Bought on a whim, totally worth it

  25. Kimberly Humphrey (verified owner)

It promises great things if you put yourself into it,, I have God to show me the way, we all do

  26. A. J. Wienhorst (verified owner)

Don’t buy this workbook if you aren’t actually serious about healing some core wounds and looking at your childhood experience seriously. This is not for the faint of heart and is not one of those self help books you can skim through and pretend you’ve done something. This is gut wrenching, deep level stuff and takes a LOT of time and effort to work through (and support).

  27. Ouzola Customer (verified owner)

This workbook is the motherload of childhood healing. I highly recommend.
