I am cautious about any kind of self-help book. This one had been recommended to me and I was glad I found it. It takes all the aspects of depression and makes them easy to understand and work with. Highly recommended.
Kahikina R. (verified owner) –
What a great book! I’ve used it as a reference for interventions to use with individuals I use in treatment. I also refer to it if I want to assign a different homework assignment to my clients.

good read, a little too tied to theory more than helping to find true relief for anyone suffering from depression
Elizabeth Herrmann (verified owner) –
I would recommend this book to anyone with depression. It’s very readable and covers all the cognitive approaches to the disorder. I do wish it had an index.
E. Troy (verified owner) –
This workbook has been a useful resource for my clients dealing with depression. In fact, some have found it so helpful they have purchased their own.

While there are a few tedious points overall this book has been very helpful for me with useful and accessible ideas that are easy to apply. Well worth the read.
Darlene Hunt (verified owner) –
I believe that anyone that has depression or that anyone that knows of a family member or friend that has depression could use this book . I am still reading it right now , so I am a little slow on my reading , but so far I like it .

I have periodically used this book in private practice over the years. It’s a bit challenging for some client’s to comprehend, but overall a good tool as an adjunct to therapy. I recommend that users have at least, high school reading and comprehension skills.

This book while I am still in the process of reading it (in between all of my course assigned reading), is easy to read and understand. A great tool for CBT both personally and professionally.
Eno (verified owner) –
Well written, easy to understand and informative. This book was ordered for a support group, and all in the group find this a great resource for learning how to deal with depression.
Gary Phile (verified owner) –
This book is great! It is very helpful and provides a lot of information to help you help yourself when you need the help.
I would just like to say though, you have to do the work to get results. This is a workbook after all. There are charts you need to fill out, questions to answer, and you have to think. One thing I didn’t like was that I had to think about things that didn’t make me very happy. Sad things. I had to think through things to work out how to recover better and to be more happy.
You don’t get healthier by not doing work. It’s the same for your mind.
This is a good book and it will help you feel better, but you’ll have to do the work it asks of you.

this book works well on it’s own but also serves nicely as a complementary self help to accompany traditional therapy

Exactly what it says on the cover. The book has many exercises, self test, and knowledge to actually make a difference in your struggle with depression. But if you’re looking to benefit from it just by reading, skip it, it may be not for you.
Andrew Eppich (verified owner) –
Very useful tool when working with clients with depression. Easy to use and easy to discuss with clients. I would also recommend the seller as well. Price was fairly good too. Arrived in great condition.

This workbook has been exactly what I have needed. I always wanted to change my negative thinking and get out of my depressed moods, but I never knew how. I have been using it in my counseling sessions, and it has done wonders. I’m halfway through, and I have already sensed positive differences in my thinking patterns. I’m no longer thinking negatively or sinking into a deep hole. If I find myself sinking, this book has shown me ways to snap out of it quickly. You need to do the exercises the book tells you to do! You can only get out of it whatever you put into it. As long as you can fully dedicate yourself to change and follow the exercises and easy to read and understand text, then you can find your way out of depressed, negative thinking and gain true inner peace, higher self-worth and increased self-confidence. I highly recommend this workbook for anyone who wants to get out of negative thinking and become a more positive and happy person.

I haven’t actually started using this book just yet but I have flipped through it and it looks REALLY structured. It is a gold mine for someone with depression or other mood disorders who is looking for something beyond psychoanalysis that can deliver results fairly quickly. I am still reading “feeling good” though so I won’t start working on this one until I finish the other. I am sure it will be great though.

I don’t suffer from depression, but wanted to support a friend by working through the same book she was using. You don’t have to be clinically depressed to benefit from this book. I find it really helpful in gaining insights about myself and enlarging my perspective of the world around me. Clearly written, well-organized and presented credibly by a therapist who has struggled with depression first-hand. I highly recommend for anyone interested in personal growth and self-understanding!

As a longtime sufferer of depression and bi-polar I found this book related to me in more ways than I could’ve imagined. When describing the effects of depression as well as the feelings one goes through in dealing with depression, it was as if someone had just shined a light on me in an “AHA!!” moment. EVERYTHING this book mentions as far as how one feels and thinks was, for me at least, spot on. As my spouse does not support me very much while I deal with my depression, these insights are the very affirmation that I needed to read/hear to let me know that my thoughts and feelings are NOT all in my head. If for no other reason other than to have one’s doubts cast away and to be reassured that your not just imagining all your feelings, this book is well worth the price. It would have gotten 5 stars but I haven’t finished the book yet.

Good Lord, wish I had found this years ago. Breaks it down bit by bit, providing useful exercises and information each step of the way. Still making my way through the workbook but so glad I found it.

I found this workbook to be extremely helpful. I have experienced depression and anxiety for the past couple decades and this workbook is full of practical tools.
Ouzola Customer (verified owner) –
Extremely helpful book! I’m reading a little bit every day and it is SO helpful. Im also really picky about fonts and formatting and this book is just PERFECT.Pros:- will update later as i get through more of the bookCons:- takes a while to complete the whole book BUT remember that there’s no quick fix to depression. I took medication and they did nothing for me, while just reading a little bit of this book is actually helping!Would recommend to anyone who is going through depression or knows someone who does.

This book is LITERALLY saving my LIFE!!! I don’t even have enough words to write in detail on how highly I recommend this book. I’ve already told friends and family about it. If you’ve battled depression for a long period of time or are new to the diagnosis, this book can drastically help you and help you turn your life back around. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is the only way to go!!!
Ouzola Customer (verified owner) –
Just as I expected it to be.

I haven’t done much in this workbook yet, but it was recommended to me to use in leau of going to a CBT. That would get expensive. Trying the book first was a much cheaper option. It seems to be well written with pertinent information.

My therapist recommended this book, in fact, we go over it chapter by chapter. It really breaks down depression step by step and helps you to complete small goals, ultimately helping you to spot your triggers, weak points, and effectively curb them.
Lori Halvorson (verified owner) –
This is a very helpful book.
StarStuff (verified owner) –
This book provides in-depth, step-by-step strategies for defeating depression. The exercises and insights in this book are very much in contrast to prevailing counseling practices, which assume that if you merely talk about your depression, it will eventually resolve itself (and is more effective at providing revenue for counselors than it is at actually helping clients).
Every page of this book contains helpful things that you can ACTUALLY DO to combat your depression. Not all of them will work for every individual, but the reader is free to try any of them, to see what works for themselves. Depressed people often feel powerless. This book is very empowering.
This book is based on “Rational Emotive Therapy” (also called “Cognitive Behavioral Therapy”). But it is very practical, not theoretical. The basic idea is that you have enough control over your own thoughts and behaviors that you can break the cycle of depression by changing your thinking processes, and changing the activities that you choose to do.
If you want a book that will allow you to passively “feel good” without investing any effort, this isn’t for you. But if you want to get to work and re-gain control of your life, then you gotta buy this book!!!

One of the best support tools in addition to face to face psychotherapy. The worksheets support clients as he/she works to challenge negative thoughts and beliefs.

Just the tool I needed to get started. I would like to buy this as a gift to a few people but need this available in other languages like Spanish. If this happens to happen, is there a way for me to be notified ASAP?
Great book!

I am a LPC and bought this to have some visual worksheets to help explain CBT to clients. I found it helpful for that purpose but overall its very basic information if you are looking from a licensed perspective. However, I would recommend this product to people who are struggling with depression and needing a step by step guide to help them get through on their own. Easy to understand language and good at explaining reasons and concepts.
