Description
We hear the terms trauma and PTSD more and more. Yet many people still believe that trauma can only result from experiences that are particularly extreme. But trauma is an emotional response that can stem from a wide variety of upsetting experiences, leaving us feeling anxious, weighed down by negative emotions or memories, or feeling like we lack security.
As a licensed therapist, Kati Morton addresses this challenge: If we don’t have an understanding of trauma and how it’s defined, how can we work to overcome it? The urgency of meeting this challenge increases at a time when we are bombarded with a constant flow of frightening stories—about global pandemics, ecological disasters, riots, and mass shootings—that can trigger our emotional stress. We must find a balance between staying connected to the world on social media while avoiding the false facts, hate-filled comments, and passive-aggressive posts and accounts that feed negative thoughts. In Traumatized, Morton shares a unique perspective on trauma in the modern age, including:
- Tips to be more mindful of what we do and who we follow online, which is the key to improving our relationship with social media and stop spreading the trauma
- Helpful therapeutic techniques to heal from childhood trauma
- Skills to identify transgenerational trauma and begin to break harmful cycles in your home
- Whether to seek therapy or counseling.
Ultimately, you’ll learn how to identify and cope with your triggers, pay attention to how platforms and accounts can harm your mental health, and find the tools to manage what you can see online.

I am still dipping my toes into the self-help pool, finding what works for me and what doesn’t. Books written like Kati’s are definitely my cup of tea.
I can’t imagine how challenging it would be to tackle a subject like trauma, but I do know that Kati did it with a finesse only a talented author like herself possibly could.
I’m only two chapters into the book, but what I’ve seen so far has been great! Informative and easy to understand without being too ‘dense’.

I’ve been a follower of Kati Morton’s work for nine years, so I was really looking forward to this read.
This is a wonderful compendium of insightful perspectives, tools for mindful awareness, acceptance, and recovery.
The chapters are broad-ranging, yet the focus is crystal clear – recovery.
Each chapter contains a summation at the end with “Key Takeaways”, and they’re very useful (and handy).
I’ve worked in DBT therapy, and having quick ‘go-to’ refreshers like those are wonderful tools, especially when dealing with triggering events.
If you’ve dealt with trauma in your life, I highly recommend this read.

I like this book but also feel like it’s a little on the self diagnosing, which isn’t always a good thing. Let the professionals take care of that but you do learn a lot and over all a good book, especially if you already been thru ptsd and trauma!

I got this for my girlfriend who has, like many people, experienced trauma as a child that has shaped her future and life. This book is a great way of adding more perspective to this world and issue. Good book.

Even though some stuff was hard to hear, this book helped me understand some of my trauma and why I dissociate as well as what trauma can look like other than big Ts. It did exactly what it’s supposed to do. Super helpful to anyone that’s struggling, or if someone you know is struggling. Definitely recommended!
