Children today face many challenges; and if you are a parent, teacher, or a professional working with kids, you may be seeking answers on how to help children thrive in a world filled with uncertainty, adversity, and the detrimental effects of social media and screen time overload. There are tools you can use to help kids build confidence and resilience, and cope effectively with difficult situations. This workbook is packed with a variety of hands-on practices to help children thrive—with kindness toward themselves and others.
In this fun and engaging workbook, the cofounder of the Mindful Self-Compassion for Teens (MSC-T) program offers essential self-compassion and mindfulness skills to help kids build emotional strength and resilience. Kids will find simple, age-appropriate practices based in loving-kindness and gratitude to self-soothe, reduce stress, and respond to their own emotional needs. They’ll also learn to make kindness their “superpower,” quiet their inner bully, and protect and befriend themselves.
Activities in the book are designed to facilitate experiential learning, and include:
Mindfulness meditations
Reflective journaling
Hands-on mindful movement activities
Arts and crafts activities
Self-compassion and emotional resilience are cornerstones of mental health, and research shows that teaching these skills to children when they are young can have lasting, positive effects—well into adulthood. With this workbook as a guide, kids will learn to be a better friend to themselves and others, and thrive in a stress-filled world.
Let's talk about the significance of self-compassion and mental health. In today's fast-changing world, teenagers are confronting unprecedented challenges that can take a toll on their mental well-being. By introducing self-compassion to kids early on, we are empowering them with invaluable skills they can carry with them throughout their lives. This workbook is a proactive step in ensuring they have the tools to navigate the ups and downs of life with grace and resilience.
One aspect that truly sets this workbook apart is its educational content. It's refreshing to see that the activities go beyond just filling out worksheets. Instead, they foster a deeper understanding of emotions, thoughts, and the power of self-compassion. By encouraging a connection with nature and promoting meaningful connections with others, the workbook reinforces the importance of empathy and emotional intelligence.
In summary, "The Self-Compassion Workbook for Kids" is an absolute gem. Its focus on emotional strength, mindfulness, and nurturing connections makes it an indispensable resource for parents, teachers, and caregivers. By teaching kids self-compassion from an early age, we are sowing the seeds of resilience that will blossom throughout their lives. This workbook earns a well-deserved five-star rating, and I wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone seeking to empower the next generation with invaluable life skills.

As a mom of three little boys (ages 9, 7 and 4 currently) and as a clinical psychologist, I am so thankful to have this book to help me as I teach these skills to my kids. The exercises are simple to understand and explain, can be done in just a few minutes, but have a big impact! Although we haven’t finished the workbook fully just yet, it is helping my boys be more mindful of what they are feeling, thinking and sensing in their body. It is helping them learn to be more gentle with themselves when their big tough feelings emerge rather than mentally speaking negatively to themselves (in failure or when they do something wrong) and it is equipping them with tools they need to calm their body and mind and self-regulate.
The exercises are fun and cute too! My boys have particularly loved the rainbow breathing exercise and use it all the time!
In a world that seems to be much more high-pressure even for our kids, I am so thankful for this wonderful workbook to help guide us parents as we seek to raise an emotionally healthy next generation. Give yourself and your kids a gift and buy this book! You’ll love it!
The concrete, creative activities will inspire kids to use all their senses and develop their empathy. It's a book you can come back to many times over the years of your child's or grandchild's or child-friend's growth and keep learning from.
Great for adults, too.
